    It wasn’t a properly competitive game, as the score line highlights. If that had been the semi-final or final it would probably have finished with combined goals of under 2 or 3. Great entertainment, but nothing more.

    England couldn’t get the ball. There’s a difference. Messi took possession, and kept it, whenever he wanted. Argentina’s technical ability allowed them to limit England to 12% possession after the first goal. A little bit of that was to do with England’s tactics; a lot of it was, imo, to do...

    Result and performance throughout the game says different. Argentina raised their game to the levels of which they are capable once they conceded; England (who are a slightly above average team, as their performances throughout the tournament highlighted) had no answers once that happened.
