All of which I see as "the game". Play it or lose out.

I dont agree with it, I think the authorities should enforce the rules and stamp it out, but it is what it is.

And, IMO, its different from the outright thuggery and cheating we have had to (regularly) contend with.

I am not complaining about our players playing the game just pointing out we have players who do, we don't do bad.

And my point is not that we do "as well", is that we are suffering a different type of foul/foul play.

I dont think we are anything like as dirty as most neutrals think we are, and its not in that "nobody thinks their team are dirty" way, but more in that "Ive seen us regularly receive worse than we dish out" way.

Have to say I agree with @Raziel on this one.

Yes, we will go in full blooded. Yes we will play the gamesmanship "he touched me I went down" thing. Yes there are times we put in a bad tackle (though I dont think maliciously). And yes we will take one for the team to kill an attack.

However....

This is all "playing the game" type fouls. I hate it, I dont like most of it, but its how every team operate these days and to not do so is to give a self imposed handicap.

None of this is the "bad" sort of fouling though, its what football has become.

Take recent weeks for example, we have literally been kicked up in the air, stamped on, barged off the ball, studs down the back of the leg and suffered some horror tackles - all unpunished.

We have been kicked and pushed out of games. And I honestly dont think we ever play THAT way. And that is what I think of when I think of teams being dirty etc.

Burnley, Arsenal, Chelsea - have a look at the treatment they served us up - we dont even play that game.

With all due respect, I imagine most Spurs fans would agree with Raziel on this. And most Liverpool fans would agree with the Scouse Raziel, most Arsenal fans would agree with the Arsenal version, most Burnley fans would agree with the Burnley version etc etc.

We are all inherently biased when it comes to these things and what I find strange is that most fans, of all clubs, don't even seem to have particularly great insight into that fact. I like to think I'm relatively objective but when I'm in the stadium, logic flies out of the window and I think pretty much every chance is close, every decision the ref gives against us is a scandal, every opposing player is a dirty, diving pansy out to injure our players and all of our players are simply misunderstood innocents. This clearly is not an objective or realistic view of things. Things are slightly better when I'm not in the stadium and much better still when I'm not in match mode at all.

As I said, I was recently reminded of the Kane and Alli challenges against Emirates Marketing Project when we lost 4-1. Also as I said, I had effectively blanked this out of my memory. Watching them again, the challenges were horrific and could have caused serious injury. And came when we were being thoroughly outplayed so I'd imagine not from the most innocent of places either. Yet I imagine most of us have forgotten all about instances like that (I certainly have, I can barely remember what happened in our matches 2 months ago)!

We have played that way, the 'battle of the bridge' and that Emirates Marketing Project game for instance comes instantly to mind and I'm sure there are other examples. And most importantly, if we think we don't play that way regularly, we should. Part of the genius of Ferguson's Man Utd teams was that he could go out and play some incredible football. Yet he could also go out and spoil the likes of Arsenal and if he came across a team like Blackburn or Bolton that would kick 7 bricks out of them, he could field players that would kick them right back and then beat them through superior talent too.

I have to say, I feel like I watched a different match to some of you. Burnley certainly tried to rough us up (though we deserved to lose that match regardless) but I didn't watch the Chelsea or Arsenal matches thinking these are teams trying to spoil us. Mostly I was watching at disbelief at how poorly we were playing and trying to remember Poch's high pressing, aggressive teams and wondering what the hell happened to that.

Still, I know this view likely won't get much traction on a Spurs board and as you said, we're getting into opinion now, so like assholes etc etc.

While it's a great achievement, it also speaks to how low our European goal-scoring record is!
European football only started in the 60’s, we were booted out of it in the late 80’s early 90’s thanks to Liverpool, then we were brick for 10/15 years. The early years of the competition’s were how they should be, knock out tournies, it’s only since the mid 90’s it’s become leagues with loads of games.

don’t think our record is that bad really, whose City’s top scorer? I’d imagine Aguero with less than Kane? Chelsea’s? Etc.?

Kane should ignore the media and not buy into this narrative of bottling it. There are reasons players dont play well in certain games and it is not all due to pressure. There is squad depth, mental and physical fitness as well.

That said he also needs to take a hard look at himself.

Errr wot? He is a supreme pro in ALL those aspects!!!! Which means he will do anyway.

Really starting to think that Poch and Kane should STFU for a while; whilst they have been key in raising the general standing of the club in recent years, the blame for not taking 'that last step' can equally be attributed to them as much as anyone else.

Poch: how about your in-game management for the Juventus and Man utd games last season, not to mention about your decision to play Son at fudging left wing-back in a FA Semi-final?!! Also, how about not poo-pooing the cups before you talk about 'failing to take the last step'??

Kane: have you wondered what might have been if you had your scoring boots on in the Juve game, the game in the EL vs Ghent in Feb 2017? Oh and did you do yourself justice in that FA Cup semi vs Man Utd?

You’ve gone off the reservation fella. Let them do what they do best; keep pushing us to new heights. In fact, I think you must be trolling.

I guess that if Poch and Kane are ever in a situation where you are able to directly impart your superior knowledge they'd explain in great detail why you should take your own advice.
