Interesting post so wanted to offer some thoughts below mate...
I believe we will, but I also believe Xavi is learning what this league is about. Further, I think it is fair to say that Xavi has license to drift inside at will if he wants. What's been interesting is when he's dropped deep a la Madders to pick the ball up and drive/get fouls. I think we have to give him time to continue adapting. We're seeing some bigger signings suffering much more i.e. Wirtz.
Hmmm. The drop-off between Danso and Romero is massive IMO.
Frank evidently does not feel he has a front three (or four) blend he can trust enough right now. If we had a fit Deki, Solanke and Muani, I think he'd be far more likely to do the above more often. That being said, I agree that a Gray/Pahlinha/Bergy midfield would be great to see start. Imagine being able to bring on Sarr/Bentancur. Great.
Odobert doesn't have the personality to play 10 effectively, I'd rather persevere with him first of all getting the left-wing/left-attacker side of him better (albeit I'd personally be giving Tel more time from there). For me, the whole '10' thing is not quite as relevant in a Frank set-up as he likes to use width and also like to punch through the lines carrying the ball. I tend to think what people are wanting from Xavi is his 'inside' work and not to see him being told to stay wide. Which I don't believe he is because (put simply) he really doesn't, especially when Udogie plays. FWIW I agree with that general premise.
I think we will continue to see something close to this. In a sense, it is 'wonky' ( not 'a' wonky) because we lack the dynamism of Kudus on our left. Until we buy someone like Semenyo, we will continue to lack it, thus I think he will continue to play Simons there, expect him to free-drift where he needs to, expect Udogie to supply width on that side, and expect the midfield to cover when he is forward like that. The biggest issue for me is that we don't move the ball fast enough at times, and it becomes too easy to isolate Kudus. I think as Xavi grows into things and Lucas continues to drive the way he does, it will give Kudus a little more time.
I don't know if we can expect Frank to have a proper handle on things before the first NLD. Lots of variables, and for now, I am satisfied that we are not losing games despite some underwhelming performances.
