Recovering from injury

F10

Ryan Nelsen
A few weeks ago i twisted my knee playing footie for my team at work. Damaged my cruciate ligament and meniscus a bit, but nothing career threatening (not much of a career to be honest though :p).

Im doing some boring excersises and also doing a bit of cycling to get my knee up and running again, but i wondered if anyone has experience with any aids to help speed this up.

Ive heard good things about a tape, Kinesiotape, basically what we have seen Bale wear and we saw among others Balotelli and Buffon use during the Euros.

Anyone tried this? Does it work/help?

Whatever you do - don't rush it else you'd risk doing serious damage. Bad knees can haunt you for the rest of your days and significantly shorten you 'career' - don't take chances, not with knees especially. They are notorious chronic 'suferrers'

Speak to a physio and obtain professional advice on recovery period, dates, rehab, etc.

Haven't used the tape myself so hard to say if it's a placebo more than anything - perhaps look for it on sports forums, etc.

I've used it. Didn't notice any difference and my mate who is a physio reckons its a lot of balls.

One thing I'd say for your rehab is do not neglect strength work (once the injury is healed enough to do it obviously). Get it moving again as soon as possible, once you feel comfortable squats performed below parallel will build it back up again.

Thanks for the reply guys!

Ive been to an expert, getting some treatment, but he didnt have any experience with the tape.

I did my ACL (and meniscus tear) last September playing five a side. It wasnt until I'd wasted three months on (I was still able to cycle just knew I couldn't trust it playing sport) with no success that I was sent for an MRI scan which showed I needed a knee reconstruction operation.

Had the operation in March and i'm now still rebuilding the leg. Muscle wasted away completely in the month or so after the operation. Been told not to expect to play sport until next year, meaning total time spent out of sport is well over a year.

My advice is get the MRI scan, anything else is guess work.
