It is a much wider discussion, but in one context I guess it refers to global-scale conflicts, WWIII, and the stopping the current move into multipolarity. But yes, they Americanised the brick out of everywhere, whether they wanted it or not.

What is incredible to me is that we are all witnessing the self-immolation of a superpower in real time. If Dems prevail in the midterms they will look to arrest the slide as best they can, and they may indeed gum up the gears a little, but the post-WWII era of Pax Americana is effectively over...

This latest brick with Starlink is another case in point. Donny boy is/was/will be in Russia's corner. Bar his desire to emulate Putin's sphere-of-influence doctrine (which is failing, I might add), there must be some serious kompromat in Putin's safe, too. Some truly heinous brick from Epstein's...

We are witnessing end-stage capitalism, but of course there are numerous other system shocks like COVID and various pointless wars, exacerbating things. Even when these factors ease off for whatever reason, others will take their place. We are in the age of polycrisis.

New Zealand are one country that has deprioritised GDP. It uses a happiness and wellbeing index. I dare say you yourself could easily come up with a set of meaningful metrics before you finish your first coffee this morning. Selling it the wider public would be the tricky bit though, as you say.

All of humanity's worst traits stuffed into a disgusting orange sausage skin. Nothing redeeming about him, not one single thing. And still about 30% of the US public support him. I honestly hope his deteriorating mind and body holds out just long enough to experience some accountability.

Yes terrible. I have seen plenty of very good suggestions over the years, but none have been widely adopted. Kate Raworth's 'donut' is one that comes to mind that had a bit of traction (good book too). I'm sure I was reading a while back about some countries that have gone a different way...

This particular think tank gave the UK trussonomics, and I know ad hominem attacks on it are a pretty lazy argument; still I wouldn't put much credence in what they say. The OBR and Bank of England, however they measure the GDP drag, would be considered more trusted sources I would assume. In...

Debunked by a dark money funded think tank affiliate would not be something I would take as wrote. I don't know how accurate the 100bil figure is but it lines up the obr and bank of england estimates.

£100 billion a year due to weaker business investment, lower productivity, and tighter labor constraints is the bloomberg analysis. Source: Bloomberg.com https://share.google/sPGg3wm6gGHkJN4rG The obr estimate was 4% gdp drag if I recall.
