To be fair this is neither here nor there. I like what RDZ is doing. Equally Ange trusting in coaches and making a point of refreshing his staff at each club to also bring in new perspectives is a good thing. Many ways to skin the cat in football management.

The freedom thing is so interesting. It’s the sort of freedom I wish they were able to give Poch. But they’ve given it to RDZ, and again I like the strategic bet around it. I really liked Jack Pitt-Brooke’s article on this a couple of days ago. That Spurs have gambled on an idea. And I’ve been...

I know there was discussion about the language barrier earlier in the thread when the initial comments were made, and I can see both sides on that debate. On this though, I feel like he needs a little bit of slack. One word is making all the difference here and I understand why, but because...

Other than Vicario who I get why you are saying that, why would the others be losers? I was watching an interesting video on RDZ the other night, about his system. It ultimately lands on the point that the football is great but that the players are almost completely interchangeable. Individual...

I’m assuming we’re going to keep paying him it, and it is part of a well thought through, long term plan to invest in the guy that we want to be our manager for a long time. And it was a way to lock him in. He won’t get a bigger club than ours offering this amount of money for this long a time...

    Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

To quote the Million Dollar Man, everybody has a price, and if they wanted to do this move on De Zerbi earlier, I think they could have. I think the prospect of relegation getting more real clarified their thinking and made it so almost whatever it costs to get him will be worth it if he keeps...

I’m hoping the BBC is correct. In any case, I think if there was a clause, offering a 5 year contract at high wages to get him committed I think is smart. As long as we can stay up / get back up, there probably won’t be too many bigger jobs he will get. This locks him in. (Assuming there isn’t...

    Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

I’m gonna say it, I think giving him a highly paid five year contract that makes him commit to the long term project even if we go down, is one of the smartest decisions this club has made in a long time. I think the players now can’t just wait this season out and hope someone else comes in or...

    Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

I hope so. Unfortunately the decision makers have made so many bad decisions that it’s really difficult to trust in any of their analysis. I think fitness is one thing, but if you have such a system whereby his previous players have acknowledged that he would have been annoyed that they didn’t...

lol! Plenty of people are saying ‘hiring a guy who takes a while to bed in when you need instant results is an…interesting choice’. As always my mind goes to ‘surely the decision makers have thought this through’ Let’s see if it pays off, and that we aren’t all sitting here in 7 games time...

Terrifying thought that the board will once again decide to go for a reactive terror-ball manager once De Zerbi doesn’t work out. When it literally never works for us.

Is this trying to repeat the idea of Frank - eg get a manager from one of the ‘data clubs’ - only this time do it with someone who plays more palatable football?

    Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

I’m assuming that there is some sort of idea that because it’s unknowable when exactly he would start because of the WC that we want to have more control over who’s coming in and when they can start, and what they can plan for etc? That said, I’m genuinely fascinated in why De Zerbi...

Yeah I hear you, I’m more just laughing to myself at the unbearably cringe corporate speak to come that justifies the appointment. It may well be the best we can do right now, and that says something in and of itself. The fact that we are in such a poor negotiating position is also something...

    Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

Indeed. Bad decisions compound and now De Zerbi has us over a barrel. I can’t wait to see the Vinai interview about how he was the standout candidate for the top 10 criteria. How on earth does anything in his background suggest he’s worth a 5 year contract?

    Interim manager thread 2.0

I’m the biggest Poch in for the long term person going, but I don’t think even he guarantees success for the rest of the season. I don’t think anyone does. I’m still trying to figure out whether the Davies story is just trying to get comfortable with it is pure copium for the fact that we’re...

    Interim manager thread 2.0

Unfortunately we’re in the position of trusting these clueless macarons on the board with another important decision. After the litany of others they’ve gotten wrong in the last 12 months. So who the hell knows what’s gonna happen now and whether it will work. I will say, I don’t hate the Davies...

    Interim manager thread 2.0

Yeah, I don’t disagree that any manager should play the players ‘on the boat’ to coin the Tudor phrase. I don’t think it’s players not caring, I think it’s more subconscious than that. It’s reactions in the moment, it’s belief in an idea and each other, so that when things in a match...

    Interim manager thread 2.0

My concern about Dyche is less the style of football itself, as for me personally at this point whatever keeps us in the league is ok by me. It’s more, do the players buy in? Frank was supposed to stop us leaking goals and played the most risk averse form of football possible, but the team was...

    Igor the Departed

I agree. My point was that we would sack managers when in those places, or 3 or 4 points off those places in November. We would never let a bit of bad form ride out and trust in a greater plan to maintain a culture, we’d rather rip it up.
