Frank Give him time or get rid?

We can't know. That's the situation we're in. Just like we can't know if we'll improve, stay at the same or get worse under Frank. There being no obvious available candidate and the difficulties with regards to timing (no preseason, tough fixture list, two games a week) may be the reason Frank...

Frank Give him time or get rid?

If we get rid of Frank I think we'll end up with a caretaker and then a new guy come the summer. Will be a lot more good options available then. Not my job to know who could be a good caretaker. But people within the club (Lange, Paratici, Vinai) should have been thinking about that since...

On Frank... 1-1. The obvious attacking sub of Tel for Danso just sitting there. Nope. Wait until 77 minutes and after they score. It's not even like it was some gung ho attacking change had he made it, just back to our normal 4-2-3-1. But getting another more attacking player on the pitch...

Worth noting on Simons that he played through injury against Dortmund, probably not fully fit today either. Didn't have a good game at all today, no denying that. But he's clearly capable of much more and has shown that this season.

Think Gallagher at 10 (or a 4-3-3 with Gallagher as one of two box to box players) seems rather likely considering Xavi carrying a knock and putting in a big shift against Dortmund. Said this elsewhere, but for me a midfield 3 like that should also include Gray, not Palhinha and Sarr to get a...

    Andy Robertson

Definitely need an artisan or two. But some short term decent solutions to problem areas can be a good thing. I quite like the Harry R reference. Absolutely think Udogie's problem is way more injury related than needing a kick up the backside related. Robertson (declining, probably can't do...

    Andy Robertson

Several of the best players we've ever developed have had to overtake others in the process. Having more experienced players who can be trusted to do a job for a year or two shouldn't imo be seen as a bed blocker for a 19 year old fresh off the plane from Brazil. If Souza breaks through in 1-2...

Not the uncommon of a type of signing for us really. Perisic, Palhinha, Llorrente was getting up there in years too wasn't he?

Frank Give him time or get rid?

I agree that xG is pretty blunt and far from some kind of end alm discussions truth. I doubt he believes that too. But his approach so far and how we approach game states at 0-0 paints a pretty clear picture of his biggest priorities so far at least.

    Andy Robertson

A problem position for us. Sign a young 19 year old with bags of potential who probably needs a bit of time. Sign a 31 year old who can definitely do a job, almost certainly can be relied upon and is a natural fit. While keeping the option of playing Spence there (say him and Porro are fit...

    25/26 Injury and illness thread

Agreed. Though with the caveat that I wouldn't want the two players behind him to be Palhinha and Sarr. Gray or Bissouma need to be in there for a touch of ball progression through the middle under pressure.

That schedule on it's own isn't that bad, agreed. But we have players just returning from injuries (Solanke, Udogie), players seemingly playing through injury against Dortmund (Simons at least), players who have looked a bit fatigued recently (particularly Porro). But yeah, the players that...

    Andy Robertson

No worries. Frank will just tell him not to run past the half way line and stay in position 😉 (that is a joke based on previous conversations about Frank, not to be taken seriously). Think he would be a good signing. Experience, natural left footed left back. Replacing Davies short term while...

Frank Give him time or get rid?

I see that differently and see the Pochettino example differently. I don't think sorting out the defence is when magic happens in attack. Both have to be worked on at the same time as part of a cohesive strategy imo. Obviously improving our defending and getting fewer goals against was a vital...

Frank Give him time or get rid?

I'm not sure on that trend. Not sure if there are any useful online stats like that available. Nathan over at the extra inch pod occasionally posts cumulative xG and xGA graphs on twitter/X that I think shows a bit of what you're asking for. Not sure when he last posted one of those though. I...

Frank Give him time or get rid?

We have a higher xGA (29.5) than xG (25.2). Our xGA is close to the number of goals conceded. So looking at goals against 29 goals against over 22 games would be 50 goals against extrapolated over a season.

Result way more important than performance and style right now. But it's not like the negative and risk averse football has seen us getting good enough results. I definitely hope for more of the same from the Dortmund first half. Will be interesting to see what Frank does with regards to both...

    Souza

Welcome. Please be excellent. Big change for him, will be interesting to see if and how he's integrated this season. Hopefully he's ready to make an impact, if not no rush.

    Yves Bissouma

Will be interesting to see if and how he's reintegtated now. With Bergvall and Bentancur out injured we still have Gray, Palhinha, Sarr and Gallagher. But feels to me like Bissouma could be a useful player for us this season. Very much looked eager to impress and impose himself against West...
