    Chelsea are really an odd case. Their model has clearly brought success to the club but strangely at the expense of individual player career success. I can only think of Cole Palmer as a success story in recent times. They seem to come in get chewed up and spat out and the club rolls on.

    I think AM is a huge issue for us. Kulu will miss most if not all the first half of the season. Maddison has constant issues with form and fitness. Right now we don’t have a reliable AM in our squad. That’s not to say there aren’t other gaps of course.

    You could be right. I guess we see what we want to see. Good or bad performances, I see preseason threads littered with comments that you can’t take anything from them, it only preseason. But I think that’s a separate discussion to your overall point that our players aren’t good enough.

    I actually don’t believe this. I think people would say it’s great that we played well but it’s meaningless as it’s preseason, let’s season how we get on with real games. I think this site is broadly mature and sensible, with a few outliers of course.
