    David Bentley

Obviously these are all hypotheticals, but I'm not convinced that a David Bentley does necessarily have more contacts at top clubs compared to a Dean Windass. I know a couple of guys (not ex pros) who work in non league football who have plenty of contacts in the Premier League at both scouting...

    Fixture & Ticket News 2016/17

I think it will be harder than Wycombe but easier than a league game. It's not included on season tickets, so there will be a fair number of people who don't take up the option.

    Football and money

I'm not sure about clubs belonging to fans, but I would like to see a more widespread process for the freehold of stadium sites to being classed as community assets and controlled by fans trusts. Something like a hybrid between the Chelsea Pitch Owners and the Wycombe Wanderers Trust. Local or...

    David Bentley

I think I was probably a bit harsh suggesting that no young players would want to emulate him! At the end of it all he did play top level football and walked away with financial independence. Who wouldn't take that?! I just don't see anything about his career in football or since that suggests...

    David Bentley

He has a better chance than many, but I don't think that simply being an ex player necessarily qualifies someone to be a good agent. Bentley isn't the first ex pro to come out with the "saving young players from wasting their money" or "help young players to avoid the mistakes I made" lines. It...

Got to say that I don't see anything dangerous about this at all. The professionalism of sport means that there are now more football or sports industry jobs than ever. If someone wants to get involved professionally they can through everything from Finance and Legal to Marketing, stadium...

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

The top level figure can be very misleading - take a look at Man Utd's Training Ground deal with Aon as a prime example. My point is that companies don't carry that sort of marketing surplus to be commited at short notice (not that they can't afford it), and that internal approvals on the value...

    David Bentley

Decent interview, but I don't buy into the comments about characters/mavericks. I can remember people talking about a lack of 'characters' in the game from the late 90s onwards. When exactly was this golden age when every player was considered a character? The funniest stories I've read about...

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

Agreed, but I think it was also a sign of the financial requirements for their stadium project. They needed to show that the guaranteed revenue was there over an extended period. Of the later deals showing it was undervalued, I can't think of any that were linked to a new stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

Arsenal announced their stadium/shirt sponsorship deal 2 seasons before it opened.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

Yes, they have been since the start of this season.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

No and yes. At the size of sponsorship deal we're looking for, there will be very few companies in the world (if any) who have that money sitting in a marketing budget to commit at short notice. On the other hand a deal could be done but not announced before it begins. There is value in that...

That also includes a cafe that has half its walls covered in Spurs memorabilia and the other half Freddy Mercury/Queen.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

I think 1 & 2 could equally apply to those using White Hart Lane Station. Or compared to the walk to Seven Sisters it's probably quicker to get to Wembley Park tube. Personally I find Wembley much quicker to get back into central London.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

True! But they don't get all of the catering revenue, just a commission on the sales. Catering rights were sold when the stadium was built.

Where did you get that figure?

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

We hire the stadium for the day of the game, maybe the day before to set up, and the day after to pack up. No say on other events being scheduled.

David Beckham just wants his knighthood

I'm pretty comfortable that major international sporting success is consistent with the history of awarding knighthoods. Looking at a list of sporting knighthoods, with the exception of cricket, there does seems to be more emphasis on individuals than team sports. That said, I think Beckham's...

    Fixture & Ticket News 2016/17

Perhaps there are now, but during the week running up to any of the less desirable games you'll see tickets going for £25. Apart from the big games leaving it late to get tickets is looking like a pretty safe option. Oh well not many games left now. It will be interesting to see how the volume...

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

So the FA applied to increase the number of events that can be held at Wembley Stadium at full capacity by an extra 20. Apparently it was considered by Brent Council last night. Anyone know what the result was?
