New New Manager Poll (The Lets Get It Right This Time Edition)

Poch to Chelsea still not announced. Any chance that he is still waiting for Levy to change his mind?

    Top 5 Great Games

For those of us who are not privileged enough to go regularly, it's often a matter of luck - hoping that the games you can attend turn out to be classics. That has its charm too. Looking at the ones I happened to attend (which included many miserable and so-so ones - the recent game against...

New New Manager Poll (The Lets Get It Right This Time Edition)

We also still have the likes of Reguilon and Lo Celso on the books, who are not bad players, and may blossom under Poch. From a new manager's point of view, it might just be a very good moment to step in. I voted for Poch, never wanted him to leave in the first place, even before I knew that...

Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

Not so sure about that. With the games at home to Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Liverpool, and the away games to United and to Forest for the League Cup, and the difficulty we had to beat Leeds who were going through a bad spell iirc, it was pretty clear that we were not having that good a season at all. We...

Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

I am just trying to think of games this season in which we did play well. Maybe Brighton away? The second half at home to Liverpool perhaps, and part of the game at home to Leeds. And then Emirates Marketing Project at home, and that's probably it.

Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

This is not a bad spell. It has been a bad season, papered over by the occasional fluke result. Even our best results (Frankfurt at home, Marseille away, Chelsea at home) were achieved in games when we did not play well.

Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

I agree completely. The uncertainty around Paratici is an additional complication for Levy here. You just know that he has texted Poch already to ensure that he is available, as of now or in the summer. But if Levy sacks Conte now, and I hope he does given the kind fixture list that we have...

Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

Reading those Poch comments from 2020 again in our current position, I cannot imagine that Levy will look any further for a new manager should Conte leave in the summer.

    ** OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v AC Milan **

My first game at the stadium since Wolves in August, and my first European home game since Kaiserslautern in 1999. Was pretty optimistic back in August after a gritty 1-0, not so much now. Watching the Chelsea game last night gave me a real groundhog day feeling - them winning thanks to some...

    Pape Matar Sarr

Conte is never going to put Hojbjerg on the bench.

    Oliver Skipp

Proud to see an academy player perform at this stage. Sarr gets all the plaudits, and rightly so, but I thought Skipp was even better than Sarr last night. Interestingly, we would have talked about Skipp's performance entirely differently if the second major Milan chance would have gone in. He...

The Game Is About Glory Podcast

I really appreciate the rapid rebound pods, all of them raw and right on the money. One remark: in your elaborate praise today of Harry in the wake of his goalscoring record - so special indeed that 'we have seen all 267 of them' - I was surprised that none of you mentioned that Harry has...

    Nico Zaniolo

Really? I don't remember this, was there a rumoured price for the transfer as well?

    OMT * Tottenham Hotspur v Preston *

Yes, a strong side by all means. I would still rather face the winner of Luton v. Grimsby in the next round though. Better face City by the time Danjuma, Porro, and our new LCB have settled in.

OMT - Tottenham vs Portsmouth, FA Cup 3rd Round, 2022-23

Not too bad a draw for us. Preston away, tricky but doable. Winners of City v. Chelsea play at home to Arsenal; Brighton at home to Liverpool or Wolves.

    Rodrigo Bentancur

Injury to Bentancur against Ghana. Had to go off after half an hour - he immediately realized he could not go on. Muscle tear?

    What are we missing?

I agree that PEH and Bentancur are better going forward this year, and there's room for further improvement. I think, like Bishop, that more balance is what we need in midfield to enable both to play with more freedom AND transition from defence to attack in a more measured way (i.e. not look...

    What are we missing?

Look, I think he's our player of the season by some distance so far, and I agree that he too can do that. But what we lack is a (or another) player who can turn defence into first control, and then attack. Because we have difficulty turning defence into attack against the likes of Leeds and...

    What are we missing?

Listening to the pod just now, it occurred to me that rather than a Maddison to complement Hojbjerg and Bentancur in CM we need a Modric - in terms of position obviously (also in terms of quality, but that's not the point, just someone who can play in a midfield five and a midfield four and hold...
