Djed Spence

There are posters on here who have a history of these things. And one of them cut out a critical bit of Anges statement on Djed to try tell their story. I don't call them racist. But it's right to challenge them when they are being irrational and using cut and paste quotes to prove something which they are the same time saying they don't believe.

Well you do. And still have not explained what Djed was taking responsibility for.

Some white players rightly get labelled these things, some wrongly. Same for black players, people who have suggested these things with Spence are doing it rightly or wrongly because of what they believe they've seen - not because of the colour of their skin, it's utterly ridiculous to accuse people you don't know on a forum of doing so(and I know you personally have stopped yourself short of doing that)....
All very commendable but we don't actually live in a utopian post racial society even if that is how you view the world. The world doesn't actually work that way.

Prejudice and bias are real and those that suffer at the hands of it are that are the most aware of it and the mould it takes.

For me, he might not fit De Zerbi's style perfectly, but he is capable enough to be a backup on the right and depth on the left for THIS season. I'd love to upgrade on him, but we have other areas to address and other players that should be sold this summer that are more urgent.

It kind of reminds me of when Poch came in and we had to add pieces each window. Finish this summer with focusing on the attack and then next summer focus on adding more depth in areas like RB and ST.

Just a quick google can tell you the likes of Tevez, Ibrahimovic, Barton, Bentley, Bendtner, Cassano, Bellamy and more have been labelled with a bad attitude and arrogant. The idea that these are some special labels for black players is nonsense - if you don't agree that he has a bad attitude then fine, I don't think he does personally but I understand how some could think this with his demeanor and the odd misguided action - but it is quite a stretch he is being accused of these things on here because of the colour of his skin and it's sadly an easy go to accusation....

I believe the point is being debated far beyond this specific forum?

I think what we may see is a little is the over rotation to negative bias and the ignoring of the positive bias with Djed. Please keep me honest but I think it was @thfcsteff that floated the idea about the negative bias towards Djed with respect to colour, religion etc. In my mind, on the flip side of that is the other side of that same coin about the player's disposition. Djed comes across as the cool kid at school that is funny, good looking, snappy dresser etc that all the introverts want to secretly be. He's the guy in the England dressing room that gets hauled out to the watching media world and asks the spoof question to Morgan Rogers in an interview whether "Djed Spence" is the fastest guy in the squad". He's entrusted with the comedy routine and clearly can pull it off. He's a really cool guy.

It's actually not dissimilar to Lucas Moura who everyone loved. A marketing dream that you can work with to create a great image and sell the club. Just watch the famous "six toes" interview as Djed;s sister Bria hijacks the interview with Ben Haines. Djed was superb. Moura, similar, was always the good guy that would jump out in fan tours and meet the fans. It was irrelevant that for most of his career he was bang average on the pitch and didn't get critiqued with the same objectivity as others. Fans just wanted to see the best in Lucas and ignore his faults despite his lack of assists and 1 in 6 goal record. Lucas just needed to grab one of his littluns from his missus in the crowd, give them a cuddle and wave to the fans with them in his arms. Everything forgotten about his performance that day right?

I personally believe Djed gets quite a bit of positive bias with fans because he is a character. Sometimes, things he does on the pitch get overlooked because he is the cool guy in the squad. Whether RDZ sees life this way is the more interesting part in my mind.
