Antonin Kinsky

[Jack Pitt-Brooke] Tottenham open talks with Antonin Kinsky over new improved deal.

Tottenham Hotspur have opened discussions with Antonin Kinsky over a new improved contract.

The Czech goalkeeper was one of the integral players in Tottenham’s Premier League survival push last season, starting all seven games under Roberto De Zerbi and helping to keep Spurs in the top flight.

Now the club are hoping to tie him down to a new contract on better terms, one that would recognise his importance to the club and his new status as Spurs’ number one goalkeeper. Tottenham have just signed Martin Dubravka as a new experienced understudy, with the future of long-standing number one Guglielmo Vicario in doubt.

Love this for Kinksky. Ride the bench longer than he needed to. Seemingly almost sold / traded (????) has the horrible night in Madrid and bounces back to be a massive contributor to us staying up.

I really like him, I think he has elite mentality, confidence and mental strength. He is great with the ball at his feet, and he’s showed he can make blindingly good reaction saves. Exactly the sort of player we should be promoting.

I’m really pleased to see this, but I do also worry that his shot stopping will be shown as subpar with a longer run of games.

He had one brilliant save in that end-of-season spell, but also had one of two that got away.

Would be delighted to be proven wrong though!

Wanted to ask you in the other thread - you said you were 90% confident in Kinksy. What would get you to 100? I can’t think of something I need to see from him other than consistency across a season.
Shot stopping
Even in the 7 games we conceded some goals that he should save or at least attempt too
Key now is he knows he is number 1
That lift alone is huge for him

Chelsea ones for a start
He doesn’t dive well for any shots from distance

Don’t want to big dingdong you but I was a keeper to a fairly good level. The ball swerved infront of Palinhia and without a time machine it would be impossible for him see that until it’s too late. Tbh I asked that question knowing it’s the goal that would be digged out.

To show I’m not a complete Kinsky fanboy I also think the late save v Leeds was as much luck as it was skill.

It’s the lack of foot movement on shots from range. Even if it didn’t move he wouldn’t get near to it

I’ve spoken to several keeper coaches over the years and also some ex pros.
I remember Paul Robinson saying the same thing about Courtois when he was at Chelsea

it’s not new for Kinky … it’s the same with shots against Madrid this season
And also when he played previous seasons
He needs to fix it because it’s a clear weakness

Good to hear he has been given another contract, for any player [ especially a keeper] to come back from his game in the CL shows strength in his ability/mind.

Yeh I’m not saying it’s not a weakness. But that too specifically was not due to that. He saw it late purely based on where Palhinha was standing.

It's not that he didn't save it, it's that he barely even tried and that's something he's been guilty of many times. I was also a keeper to a good level and you just know when you see certain shots I feel like he hasn't extended properly it's happened quite often but much less in the last games. In that regard he was much improved, if he keeps going for all shots then he's has a lot of potential and a very good all around game.

Now Sky pitching in, looks like Kinsky will be the no 1, I am not an expert on goalies but he looked far more assured at corners than Vic does and despite the Chelsea goal which I don't think he can be blamed for , in those last few matches he was a major factor with some world class saves in keeping us up.
