*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal FC ***

I wish we would complain about him which we won't. But we all know he wouldn't do a damn thing in our favor or in fact just be fair and competent
I'm in the pro-Levy camp but this is an area where he's always failed to stand up for the club. The time to do so was following Chris Foy's performance at Stoke all those years ago or Juventus in the Champions League. Today was nothing in comparison to those games, just another example of the teams at the top getting favourable decisions, which has always been the case.

Haven’t read the thread so maybe this has already been mentioned but the atmosphere was rubbish today. As soon as we went behind the noise should have been ramped up. And again. And again. But it took deep into the second half before we picked it up. It doesn’t excuse weaknesses on the pitch but I don’t think the crowd played their part either.
I had the volume way down, as the little one was sleeping on my lap, but I could still tell it was far from the level of noise it should have been.

Just not acceptable’ was Ange Postecoglou’s assessment of Tottenham’s first-half performance against Arsenal and said their improvement after the break was the least they could do.

So what are you going to do about it as the manager?
It's been the same since November and it's stayed the same.
I just read his comments on corners. Jesus. He's big picture and I've always been impressed by that but, fudge me, you have to pay attention to the details sometimes. When teams are exploiting your weakness on set pieces to the point that it's costing you goals and games, it's a dereliction of duty not to do something about it.

Saying "it's not where we are in our development mate" is not acceptable.

I did think some of his comments were spot on particularly in relation to the second goal where he said we were still moaning about the trip on Deki. We got drawn in a couple of times to their antics too that allowed them to timewaste.

But our discipline and maturity have been lacking this season. No point talking about it, you need to do something about it. We're seeing the same things time and time again.

As much as we should be tearing shreds from him after the match, it doesn't change anything.

What we need is someone on the pitch (and a few of them if the ref is card happy) in his ear from the very beginning about what he's getting wrong and how many times he's got things wrong against us.

He needs to know that it's not ok to bottle decisions that might affect the title race and that we can see what he's doing. Don't let the cowardly option be the easy one.

I think without being that good we were the better side.
Today confirmed three things for me,
We can't defend set pieces for toffee,
The refs are awful
And arsenal aren't that good.

It's interesting that some are saying ange isn't suitable because he has only done it in non competitive leagues.
Well despite the hype from sky the pl isn't that competitive.
Any team in the PL can beat any team in any game. That’s not the case in the SPL. The PL is many many levels above the SPL, both tactically and when it comes to the quality of players.

One big thing is every team has the resources financially to invest in better info, data and Video now so the richest teams have huge dept for this
That a game changer compared to lesser leagues and can be used to highlight weaknesses like we saw today

There’s alot of we were the better side posts on Social media. They let us have the ball and we created not a lot. Couple set pieces with Romero and that was it really.

They were organised and offered a threat on the counter.

They looked pretty comfy till Raya gifted us a goal then were rattled.

30 minutes and game over. Two weeks to prepare for that. We are a mess at the back and it’s been pretty mediocre since the Chelsea game. We don’t look particularly threatening and are not well organised.

Even in second half VDV mopped up on few occasions. Don’t see many points for rest of season 3/4 maybe.
They had 2 counter attacks in the entire game, and only 1 of them led to a shot, so they didn't really pose much threat on the counter. And that counter and goal should never have stood. Instead it should have been a penalty for us, 1-1 and the game would be totally different. They were only a threat on set pieces. That's it! And that's because we are brick at defending them.

It felt like that to me, in the ground
But then my mate said we offered nothing either
They came with a plan to use set pieces as a threat .. sensible with our track record there
They weren’t comfortable IMO when we moved the ball quickly
When we did the Maddison many touch play… they just looked comfortable
They are a very good side and will be better once they sign a striker which is worrying but I’d also get vibes of that spurs team at the last year at the lane…

For context this is a better arsenal side than last season and that one walked all over us
We hurt ourselves Today (like they did)

As much as it hurts to say, if I understand the rules correctly, it's an offside. Had the clearance been so called "deliberate play" it would have negated the offside. From FA:

The following criteria should be used, as appropriate, as indicators that a player was in control of the ball and, as a result, can be considered to have ‘deliberately played’ the ball:
  • The ball travelled from distance and the player had a clear view of it
  • The ball was not moving quickly
  • The direction of the ball was not unexpected
  • The player had time to coordinate their body movement, i.e. it was not a case of instinctive stretching or jumping, or a movement that achieved limited contact/control
  • A ball moving on the ground is easier to play than a ball in the air
Even if I want to, I cannot say that Tomiyasu was in control of the ball. Or I may have misunderstood the cryptic laywer speak on FA's website.

Not saying it's not, but it's still the teams finishing in the same positions every season.

So our 1st goal wasn't offside
VDV was full on shoved for their 2nd goal
Kulu got fouled for a pen, wasn't given, they went up the field and scored
How it took a VAR check to give our pen was a fudging joke

As usual this season everything went their way
No no no, it’s Ange’s fault, the tactics, Arsenal deliberately gave us all those opportunities as part of their game plan, they weren’t really trying…

Yeah those comments concern me. There’s no point working on other stuff if we’re constantly conceding from set pieces. It’s just gonna destroy the players’ confidence and mindset if nothing else.

We don't know if they sat deeper because they didn't need to go forward or if we pinned them back. That doesn't change the fact that we controlled the game and pushed them back, ie we were the better team, regardless of why.
Meh, pushing a team back while creating nada whilst being 3-0 down. I struggle to see that as being the better team. More possesion does not automatically equal being the better side, it's about what you actually do with the ball and we didn't do much imo.
