The Goon Thread

I'm kinda pleased that we've been a bit brick most of my time supporting us, it has made what has happened since Jol all the sweeter. We've worked to get here, it hasn't been given to us.

Success is overrated.............
Seriously though during the Watford "game" I emotionally switched off, I'm normally kicking every ball and am a twitching nervous wreck.

We said that during the second half that at 4-0 up the atmosphere was quiet. Their fans even sang "4-0 and you still don't sing". Nervous tension breeds atmosphere - if we were only 1-0 up and banging on the door for a second goal to nail the win the place would have been a whole lot noisier.

I was flabbergasted when I saw the scoreline this morning. I even forgot that they were playing ! Palace looking very useful v top London sides, will be tough going to their ground and a few days after the semi v cheatski to boot.

Half of their last four wins have come against non league sides. That's actually quite hilarious!

The is an Arsenal fan in my new workplace, the kid can barely string a sentence together. He has failed his driving theory test 8 times which I think speaks volumes.
Anyways he told me this morning when I came in laughing because I had Townsend as first scorer and Palace to win at 14 to 1 shot, that Spurs were going to sell Dele to Madrid or Chelsea.

I told him maybe Madrid in a few years but never Chelsea. He tells me you lot will always sell to Chelsea, what like how we refused Modric his move to Chelsea and let him go to Madrid a year later after he played out of his skin for us.

Well at least we hold our players to their contracts and let them leave on a free he tells me. Now is it me or is it the younger generation having no grasp whats so ever of economics or are Arsenal fans just inbred cnuts.

I know 3 Arsenal fans who want Sanchez to see out his contract, the guy does not want to stay, sell him and reinvest in someone who wants to play for your club you macarons.

I used to think what Sol Campbell did to us was awful, but honestly it changed the business model of the club for the better, funny how things work out because I am glad he left on a free and we got stung otherwise we would never had learnt that lesson.

This kid at work smells funny as well, kind of like poor people. You just know he eats his dinner of fish fingers and chips on his lap on the sofa watching soap operas, I can almost smell the ketchup stains on the sofa mixed in with cat pea, while the stripped wallpaper is falling down and the curtains are shut all day so the house smells musty even though the parents dont work and live on benefits. Fcuk I hate Arsenal.

Watching AFTV, I am just happy that social media and YouTube channels weren't present in the Sugar era or we'd have been the laughing stock that everyone checks in on.

Brilliant. Just brilliant!

I can totally understand why their fans behave the way they do, they have followed a team which have had a wonderful run of success for nearly 30 years and naturally expect that it will continue, they have been spoilt, whereas we have had to live in their shadow and have had to bear many false dawns, but at least this helps build character and resilience. They are like many modern fans of the "big" clubs and believe they have inherent right to be at the top and have no idea what it is to see their team continually struggle to climb the table or hang on to their best players, although in Woolwich case their decline has been mirrored in the regular departures of star players. This is a view of a new world to them and although it's not as bad as the media are painting it looks terrible to them. Two third of the teams in the league would swap with them in a heart beat, if they could just realise that they could stop throwing their toys out of the pram.

I've got Arsenal mates who say they're turning their back on football, and won't be renewing their season ticket. Another goon said he bets Kane will definitely be playing for someone else next year; I said I'll take that, £50 and the mug shook on it. They say Sanchez isn't their best player, and has thrown his toys out the pram. Can you overdose on schadenfreude? #hugagooner

I was talking to a few gooners (some of the more rational/less rabid ones admittedly) at the weekend and they were full of praise for what we are doing, for the way the club is run, for the good job Levy and Poch are doing, for the way we are building a very good team. When we as fans talk about those things it's with enthusiasm and a sense of excitement for what the future holds. When they were talking it was with despondency, depression and a sense of resignation for what their future holds.
Very satisfying times in which we are living right now.
