The race for 86 points

I hopes fir the title then? Of course it looks impossible. We will have to win all our games.

Chelsea do have United, City, Everton and Southampton in their next 5 games. 2 defeats and a draw and we could be in this. Surely they will wobble at some point?

But Leicester didn't.

Nah, they're not going to lose four with us winning those same four.

We can forget about catching up with Chelski. Looks like we're on for another epic season of fudging up towards the end in the race to beat Scum though. Complete meltdown atmosphere over there, but you just know we're going to make it "exciting" somehow and probably bottle it in the last fudging round for some absurd reason.

Away to top half teams:

13 Liverpool
12
11
10 Tottenham, Chelsea
9 Emirates Marketing Project
8
7
6 Man Utd
5 Everton
4 West Brom, Bournemouth, Watford, Swansea, Crystal Palace
3 Middlesbrough
2 Stoke, Southampton, Leicester
1 Arsenal, Burnley, Hull, Sunderland

If it wasn't for the recent form that Arsenal have been on, that they have picked up only one point away from home is surprising! Hope that they don't score another point away here on in.

They've been on fire against teams in the bottom half though. Flat track bullies as always.

Personally I dont think we have a chance of catching cheatski, so its all about the CL places.....and 3rd is infinitely better than 4th given the direct entry into the Group stages, rather than having a tricky play off.

Things are looking good at the moemnt but Liverpool have an easy run-in whilst our last 5/6 games are pretty darn awkward. SPammers wont do us any favours, Palace will need the points, plus Man U and Arse will obviously be tough tough games. I think we really need to be picking up at least 10 points from our next 4 games in order that we have a buffer before the last 6 games

I get what you are saying but we have beaten Chelsea and City at home and we are a much better side than United so they hold no fear for me.

As for Palace we will be fighting for CL qualification points just as much they will for for survival and we are a better side, so again I expect us to beat them.

Regardless without making predictions on how we get the points I believe we will finish top 4 due to how good a team we are and our overall consistency.

Another way to look at the battle for CL qualification:

Maximum possible points from 38 games

99 - Chelsea
89 - Tottenham
87 - City
85 - Man U
--------------------
83 - Liverpool
83 - Arse
77 - Everton

(as of 9pm Sunday 19 March).

Never root for Arsenal, at best hope for a draw. Why risk them catching us up? You know they always seem to do it even when it looks impossible. How many points were we ahead of them in 2012? We screwed that one up even after being 2-0 ahead of them. Plus how could you support Arsenal, I mean really?!

This 1,000,000 per cent. Even with Sanchez injured and having an inferior starting eleven to us IMO I'd always back them to finish above us, they always pull it off. They're mentally stronger than us, which is crazy because they are so mentally weak.

Can't see it happening. They need to lose 3 games and drop points in another whilst we would have to pretty much win every game.

If it's best for us then I'd support them.

I know what you mean about "mind the gap" but I think this is different. They're weak mentally, he's on borrowed time and I think, this time, the time has come.

At the moment, city are closer so I want them to drop points.

That said, I'd happily take a draw.

As weird as it sounds, I want Emirates Marketing Project or any club other than Arsenal to be neck and neck with us so that if/when Chelsea wrap up the title in April we aren't so demoralised that we blow 2nd place.

IWell in 2013/14 Arsenal got 79pts and only finished 4th, but I dont think a team has ever got 73pts in the PL era, and not finished in the Top 4.

3rd has to be the target, given direct entry into CL groups. Whats the same figure for 3rd?

On a few occasions a few teams have accrued 82pts and only finished 3rd, no occurences for 80 or 81, but as mentioned, Arsenal did get 79pts in 13/14 and finish 4th ahead of us on 72.
So I would say 80pts is the target on that score

It was ahead of Everton actually (Timmeh got us 6th on 69 points) but i agree on the whole

Great to just pip ourselves over the line today going into the two week international break.

Just hoping we can nurse some wounded men for the final furlong now. OK, Kane will likely still be out for a few weeks yet, but imagine if we could get Rose or even Lamela back for the Burnley/Swansea/Watford triple-header. I think that triple-header will seal how we finish. I think if we get 9 points from that set of games, we would effectively seal a top 3 finish. We need a minimum of 5 though.

Oh and for the first time in GHod knows how long, we look like having the far better set of fixtures compared to Arsenal.

I know you don't win games just on paper, but how lucky have they usually been compared to us to have usually got most of their tough games vs the top 6/7 teams (esp the away ones) out of the way by end of February? Momentum is everything and they love to build that up towards the end of the seaosn when they usually have the majority of their games vs lower half teams.

They still have to play Us, Emirates Marketing Project, Man Utd, Everton, Stoke and Soton in the top half, whilst their bottom half opponents still to play are West Ham, Leicester, Palace and Boro.

Contrast that with us; top 10 still to be played: Arsenal, Man Utd; Bottom half: Bournemouth, West Ham, Burnley, Watford, Leicester, Palace, Swansea, Hull.

I know which fixtures i'd rather have. Momentum is key and we need to keep it; imagine the pressure on them IF we beat Burnley and go 12 points clear of them before their tough home game with City?
