Victor Wanyama

I suspect the one on the right is Wanyama as he is hovering around 88% completion this season.

I think you've completely misunderstood what I mean by moving the ball - you don't need to be a good passer (but it helps) and the passes don't need to be forward. What you need to do is read the game, move the ball quickly and in a manner that advances the team's attacking intentions.

A really good example that's easy to spot is when the get the ball from Lloris. Dier either comes deep first and takes the ball facing away from goal, or he comes back late and takes it on the half turn. When Wanyama comes to get the ball, he always drops back late and takes it facing our own goal. The extra time taken to turn and look up is the kind of thing that just takes a beat out of our passing rhythm.

im aware of that but there isn't really an objective way of showing it without trawling through hours of game play footage. personally i see very little difference in either players on the ball ability, different styles of course but both as competent as one another.

Earlier in this thread people were slagging Wanyama off and blaming him for our perceived lack of goals. Amazingly however in our last 7 matches we have scored 22 goals and he has been on the pitch for 21 of them and yet he gets no credit from those same people. It seems a number of people in this thread have an agenda with regards to Wanyama and will develop their own narrative in any way so as to ensure that he does not get any credit for what goes right with this team but at the same time standby to pounce on him for what goes wrong.

The way some people go on about their gripe with Wanyama starting ahead of Dier you would think Dier has been getting splinters in his backside because he has spent most of the season on the bench. FFS he has made 22 appearances so far this season

I think both players are good and i would play them together against Chelski. Its a fallacy that they are too defence minded and lack the ability to be forward thinking.

On the contrary, I think most are pleasantly surprised at how good he is. The bad comments are just Dele Alli logging in and bigging his mate Dier up.

I would not disagree with that, especially when you consider Dembele has been a shadow of the player he was last season

I imagine you could come up with a "passes until key pass" average or simular, as they both play in the same position. You'd need access to the OPTA data which I don't have though.

Has anyone been slagging him off?

I think it's an entirely fair and defendable point to say that Dier is better in an attacking sense or that he's simply a better player.

Last 6 of those goals have come without the Wanyama-Dembele partnership on the pitch though. And several of our best games this season have been without that partnership.

I think there's room for a player like Wanyama in a very good attacking team, though me personal preference is for a different style of player. So far Wanyama alongside Dembele has been problematic imo. That has to do with the limitations of both players.

Because their African

You know when you buy a player from there it could happen

It's been going 60 odd years I think and I know it can be a bit random and disruptive to our league but no one can say they didn't know
That shouldn't stop us from requiring them to be available for as much of the season as the rest of their team.

It should as its been in place for years and long before anyone signs the players concerned
I'll bet there's a 5 a side tournament on somewhere in North London that's been going for decades. If Kane wants a couple of weeks off for it should we let him?
