interesting that Chelsea will payLiverpool the 50 mill for Torres over 5 years

absolutely spot on

Moyes, at big club Everton, for 10 years and no trophies....thats not good at all. Plus he has had a budget, enough to win a league cup or FA cup
Moyes has steered Everton into about as many 4th and 5th place finishes as Spurs over the last 10 years - and on a fraction of the budget. To say it's not good at all is foolish IMO, Spurs fans least of all should know that history counts for nothing when trying to improve on your league position.

He's got them through to an FA Cup final, losing to a Chelsea side that won the double in the same year. No shame in that.

i said 10 years and no trophies is not good. Dont you think Everton would have loved an FA cup or league cup, maybe this season they will win the FA cup and if Spurs dont i hope they do. I never criticised Everton's league placings in the 10 years.

Moyes finishes have been:

7th
17th
4th
11th
6th
5th
5th
8th
7th

Getting 4th ended in utter humiliation, and Everton were out of Europe (CL and UEFA) before the season even kicked off. Other than two 5th place finishes, what Jol achieved, I dont see what he's done that is so great.

Yeah, yeah, he has a budget....but he's also had players like Cahill, Baines, Arteta, Howard, Fellaini, Lescott, Osman, Pienaar, Rodwell, Graveson, Rooney, Radzinski, Beattie, Saha, Van der Meyde etc down the years.

I always feel that Everton is a club of wasted talent.

Well he did make the hallowed "4th place" one season, which is arguably just as important as a cup win, in the modern age

To be fair, I dont think it was back then. And how he fared in "Europe" straight after was ridiculous

But he bought all those players? And its a bit harsh to say the campaign ended in utter humiliation, they went out to a team that reached the semis that season (and was a last minute penalty miss away from the final).

What do you mean "but he bought all those players?"

As for Europe, they failed to qualify for the CL, and was knocked out of the UEFA about a week later

You said he's had players like....down the years. I pointed out that he had bought those players, mostly for very cheap prices, rather than inherit them. And he hasn't had them all at the same time either.

The UEFA was obvious the embarassing one. Getting knocked out by Villarreal, who promptly reached the semis that season and were a bottled Riquelme penalty away from the final, is not a humiliation, especially as Everton promptly responded to finishing 4th with...making 25 million quid profit on transfers that summer.

My point about the players is that I feel there is a pool of talent he's had over the years, that have been wasted somewhat. People talk about his budget, but I simply pointed out some of the players he's aquired anyway....but done little with them.

He's had better than what Villa or even City had at times.

They made a 25M profit....and are still skint? Where did the Lescott and Rooney money go? They didnt implement a plan for the future. They seem to have no ambition, and neither does he. He is the manager, and he has a say.

I remember the MoN debate going the same way....great manager, no budget etc etc. Not the case. Now its Pardew.

We need to move on. Harry was great for what we needed at the time, but if he leaves, we need better than him, or he may as well stay.

Last note: Had Young Boys lost on penalties in the CL Semi, would it have made us not qualifying any better?

Come on mate, you've pointed out 10 or 15 decent players he's had in ten years at Everton and said he's underachieved. I really don't know what more he could have done. And I'm not even one of those who would necessarily want him here (though I respect his record greatly and would obviously fully support him if he was appointed).

Had either Villa or City finished as high as him before their respective monies came in? Even with Lerner's money, Villa have only ever finished as high as 6th right? And in City's first season with (Thai) money, they could still only finish 8th.

Everton is like a black hole. Bill Kenwright, I have no idea what he's doing up there with one of the biggest clubs in the country but Levy he is not. He has a say in the money he spends surely, once he gets it. Do you really think Moyes' preference after finishing 4th was then to sell off his best players?

MON actually spent a lot of money at Villa, all of them on a core 15-16 players of average but with pace, organisation etc.

Well, yes, especially if they'd followed that up with subsequent qualifications to the CL. Instead, once we sorted ourselves out after the half hour, we smashed 6 past a team that had finished 2nd in the Swiss league. And Young Boys were back in the Europa this season.

I know that some people have set their heart on a big name (Hollywood) manager but these are mainly the same people who think that every transfer window is a disaster if we have not spent ?ú30m on the latest flavour of the month striker. Moyes track record at Everton is excellent, they have not always played the prettiest football but I think that he has had to cut his cloth according to the width. I see no reason why he could not adapt to playing a more attractive style given better players. I can also see that his frugality in the transfer market, his ability to spot a bargain and his track record at bringing through youth players, could appeal to Levy.

One thing that I think that people overlook with Moyes is that he tends to manage to hold onto his best players and this is despite Everton being broke. Holding onto Arteta for as long as they did was an achievement and they must have had quite a few enquiries for Fellaini, Cahill, Jagielka plus a few other first teamers over the last few seasons but they have not left and you rarely hear a grumble from Goodison.

I wonder out of the realistic candidates (people would would take the job if offered) who is the board favourite?

Rafa Benitez
Slaven Bilic
Antonio Conte
Chris Hughton
Paul Lambert
Roberto Martinez
David Moyes
Martin O'Neill
Alan Pardew
Brendan Rogers
Andre Villas-Boas

Fair play, and he's a decent enough bloke by the look of things. I generally agree with him - I just think most officials make brick decisions a lot of the time! Although we all know in our heart of hearts that the "big" decisions too often go to the bigger clubs and those who whine.

Is he right for Spurs? GHod knows. Dependable. That would be my best word to describe him. Doesn't make me feel excited. Which, if I'm lashing out a couple of grand (or more with European trips) a year.... well, I'd like to think there was a little bit of excitement and entertainment to go with dependability.

I've seen his name mentioned a few times in various places, linking him with us, but I really can't fathom why. A big name ex-Juventus player, currently managing Juventus, possibly about to win the league undefeated, in the cup final so a good chance of a double, will get a crack at taking Juve into the CL next season... and he's gonna give that up for an English club, just outside the very top bracket of clubs, that he has no links or affiliation with?
