Tom Carroll

I agree, he had the perfect opportunity to show what he can do on Sunday and he failed. Too many times he came deep into the area that Dier had under control only to play negative passes, he also stood off players and when trying to press he was starting too far away from the player which gave them plenty of time to off load. He's slowed the game down when in possession and his tackling is woeful, he's a tidy player but that all. Erikson was frozen out of the game because of this.

I would suggest that Eriksen has had a number of below par performances this season so do not blame it all on Carroll

I had no idea what was going on in the OMT, I thought he had a good game. He distributed the ball well, made a couple of threatening slide-rule passes into the danger area outside the box, what more do you want? He's not Gattuso, and he's not Xavi either. He's just quite good for a ball-playing CM, which is fine by me.

Misplayed a couple of passes today. Consistency seems to be a problem. To me, he is a sub player at present. Shouldnt be starting games.

I would have started Son personally. I'm much more comfortable with Carroll playing further forward than in Dembele's position like he did against the barcodes.

I thought he played alright today. It's good he's running some yards so we don't have to rush back people like Mason.

Watford's pitch is pretty bad so our football as a team was decent, considering.

Seems to me that Carroll will be made a spacegoat for rocky performances. If Dembele stayed on then Carroll would not have had to cover his position.

Personally I think he offers more than Mason, which was the other option today.

What on earth does Carroll have that Mason doesn't?

Carroll is a timid weakling who passes sideways. Mason is ferocious, an aggressive passer, and got the best footballing brain in the squad.

I'd love to know what you have seen in him that so many others do not seemt to see. I haven't been particularly impressed with what I have seen so farb, he lacks presence and tha's not because he is small in stature . At the moment I would prefwer to see the likes of Moussa, Bentaleb and Mason in before him as these guys are quite clearly better at this stage and can influence games when on song.

Glad I didn't follow the OMT then...

Another decent game from Carroll.

Where would you say that he played today?

To me it seemed like Carroll played next to Dembele in a central midfield duo. Pretty much his natural position, and not really a position for Son.

I think they are both of roughly the same level, but I personally think Carroll has a better eye for a first time pass, whereas Mason can dwindle on the ball. Labelling Carroll a weakling is well and good, but Mason isn't much stronger than him.

I prefer Mason to Carroll and I don't think Carroll is good enough to get many starts, BUT, he has done pretty well lately at a time in the season where we need players to come in and provide cover. And Poch has managed him well.

Put this very well mate. I think Carroll and Mason both provide adequate cover, with Mason having an added season to adapt to what Poch expects from his players.

Dont agree. I think Mason and Bentaleb offer more than him.

Personally I think Mason is a good bit better - supports the attackers more, passes forwards rather sideways, better tackler and stronger, gets goals....
