We have almost made signings earlier in the window you know...it's just we haven't convinced clubs to sell their key players. The reason being the lower down the quality level you go, the more options there are for replacements, so deals can be done sooner. When you are talking about the club's best player, it's very rare that the deal will be done in July unless there is a release clause or other contractual situation involved.

Let me ask you this - if Chelsea bid £40M off the bat for Stones in July do you think Everton would have just accepted? I don't, I think Everton will have seen they have another month and would squeeze the price to £45/50M. And if you're so mad at Levy, and this is purely a Levy thing, why are Chelsea, with almost bottomless pockets and a relaxing of FFP rules, still trying to negotiate a fair price for another club's most valuable player?

Let's say we pay £8M more than needed for Berahino just to get it done quickly, and let's say another £6M to get Son done in July too...that's a £14M player we may have to miss out on. But let's say we wanted to get that £14M player done in July too so we paid £18M for them...this is the kind of financial mis management that means we can't build a new stadium and that will eventually catch up with us to the point where we will need to make serious net gains transfer wise in the coming summers.

Not only that but in 3 years, you've missed out on 3 £14m players that could be the real difference between you finishing top 4 and challenging regularly. It is this strategy that has seen us climb from bottom half finishes to where we are now.

pfftt, I've had a Norwegian team from the second division win the champions League within three Seasons on fm, and we all know that is the same as real life! Levy is useless, ME FOR PRESIDENT!!

I'm pro-Levy. I think he's done a good job over the piece and I think and hope the new stadium will secure our competitive future and help define Levy's legacy.

So, I'm given to being a bit contrary when I see people say that Levy's actions [over transfers] are variously disgusting, disgraceful and unforgivable. I concede I have a bias.

But equally, I do think there's a hell of a lot of really poor anti-Levy bile that gets oh so glibly spewed out, often based nothing more than rumour, gossip and "ITK".

It's like some really want to (or do?) believe that Levy would actively act against the best interests of the club, whilst also never taking into account that we as a club do not and cannot act independently of other clubs, certainly concerning transfers.

I find it good see some balanced argument on here. It's pretty refreshing against the constant digs and revisionist history.
 
I agree @Hotshot-Tottenham . For the most part on here, I think the guys that are critical of Levy at least put forward their views and seek to debate, so I always think that it is good to be able to just have a decent discussion. The stuff on here is nowhere near the level of bile that theboyhotspur rants. That guy is an idiot.

I love the guy, one of the best if not the best chairman out there.

There are a lot of thick blokes out there that think Levy should go, just because of his transfer policy.

I hear there is a demonstration at white hart lane tomorrow? Is this right? If true it is really pathetic and rather embarrassing. I will hopefully not have to witness I can imagine there will be about 7 people there.

I would hold my head in shame if I was one of those people.

I think he does know. In an interview that he did with Poch, he said he needed a thick skin to do his job. I really don't think he cares though. On paper he has made a lot of money from his involvement in Spurs and this will only increase. You only have to look at the Club from the time that he joined to what it is now to see what a good job he has done. This is despite all of the grumbles that people have against him.

Last season, quite a few people around me would grumble about Levy. Apparently Lamela was his fault. Losing Bale, Berbatov, Carrick, Modric was all his fault. He never backs his managers, he doesn't have patience with his managers or he is draining money away from Spurs. All gonad*s imho, but there you go.

Do I feel sorry for him? Not really. He's earning a lot of money and I think any chairman of a club will have to realise that he will receive a lot of criticism which may or may not be fair. He's earning enough to make it worth his while. I do worry that were the club to ever be sold, whether we would get a Glazer or a rich Oligarch/Sheikh. If we were to get a Randy Lerner, Glazer, or Gillet/Hicks combo then we would all have a lot of agreement on here.

As for the demonstration tomorrow, I will keep my eyes out. It is a sad state of affairs that in this day and age of free information, people find it easier to believe the headline and the newspaper hype over and above rational sense. At least, rational in my view! ;)

I reckon it will be full of 12 year olds who can be arsed to put their play stations down for 5 minutes if true.

Well, personally, I would like to see someone in charge with a genuine pro bono outlook for the legacy to the football club, instead of a billion-pound payday exit strategy. Clearly too much to ask, especially these days.
