General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

With Rodriguez looking unlikely I think this chap is worth a punt. I don't know what his workrate is like but he looks very tricky and fast. We need fast. If might give Chadli a little nudge to apply himself more too.
I think it would probably be just about impossible for his workrate to be worse than Chadli's, so it sounds as though the risk is minimal.

Konoplyanka is a player who has a huge amount of quality and also serious pace (which is something that we lack) I would be happy if we make this signing.

On another note I see that Everton's England under 21 left back Luke Garbutt seems to be having a stand off with Everton on signing a new contract. I wonder whether he's worth having a little try for?.... I think that he has the potential to be a better fit for our left side than Davies is so would provide more like-for-like back up for Rose.

Really sounds like sour grapes, which is a shame from someone I liked.

To say it looks like Lamella has forgotten how to play football is a bit of a stretch to say the least....

I thought he was pretty close to the mark with that point to be honest.

As an aside I know somebody who was involved in finding Gomes his first property when he came over to London. "Thick as pig sh!t" was the consensus and his agent and the club liaison officer had to organise absolutely everything for him.

The other players - and not just Sandro, I remember King for one - used to speak quite highly of him on a personal level

Don't get me wrong Lamella hasn't fulfilled his potential but to say he looks like hes forgotten how to play football is over the top....

It could just be because he played well against us last season. The same thing happened for ages with Marin.

We only have Chadli at LWF, so it's not a position we are strong in at all. In fact it's the one position we are short on numbers at

Exploiting contract situations is our bag. We can't afford £20m players.

no, but id rather we buy the right player for a lets say sub 15 mill fee rather than the wrong one just because he is free

It happened because defences got too good at defending crosses. Crosses stopped being effective not long after the mid 90s (Sharpe-Giggs and Summerbee-Beagrie were about the last generation of orthadox wingers). Attacking became much more about retaining possession and picking out runners through the channels.

The continent picked this up about 15-20 years ago, which is why generations of inverted wide players have been produced. England has only caught up more recently, with the likes of Townsend, Rodriguez, Wellbeck being the first generation of naturally inverted players to come through youth football

While understanding what your saying GB orthodox winger provide width inverted ones don`t, you might as well play a diamond.

Well this player fits the criteria of what we are looking for on the surface - left sided wing/forward who scores and creates...he's been linked for a couple of years now so you would assume has been scouted to some degree. Like with every position which needs strengthening he is probably one of a number of players we are interested in

It's not so much that they are free per se. It's that not having to pay a fee allows us to stretch to players in a wage bracket that we otherwise couldn't reach (see recruiting Ade)

I rate Chicarito and more importantly he's actually gettable, rather than a lot of the names which people tout about on here, and would improve us.

Never been impressed with Chicharito personally, he's not consistent enough of a goal scorer to make up for the fact that's all he brings
