Danny Rose

Not just England. Fairly common most places. It's about building a team over time, making drastic changes to the squad all of the time will not help that.

Look at Germany. Do you think Low picked Klose, Mertsacker, Podolski and Khedira on form last summer?

It's the same story most places most of the time. Some player is in a good run of form and "overlooked" - cue the outrage, 6 months later it's someone else. A year later the original player usually isn't even considered by the fans.

The solution for Rose is quite simple. He's had 3/4 of a season now with good improvement. He's solidified a starting position for us under considerable competition. If he keeps playing well he'll most likely get his chance, if he keeps improving he'll definitely get his chance.

We aren't talking about Proven players here....

I can understand Baines considering his experience, despite him being average this season and never playing well for England.

Shaw's 150k a week seems to have gone to his head, such is form this season. He also looks far to heavy for me and i reckon injuries could prove to be a feature of his game. But he was a child prodigy so cool, stick with him for now despite him playing like a drain for nearly a year now.

However, Gibbs is fudging bang average. He is a tidy player who has 5 good games a seasons and people go mad, before he gets injured looks brick and spends the rest of the season in and out the side. He is tidy going forward and gets put on his arse far too much defensively. Completely average and Rose is better now and has a higher ceiling that this guy.

I would have picked Rose over Gibbs too. But it's not some travesty like some here are making out. Gibbs is also less than a year older than Rose.

Even if you're not dealing with proven players doesn't mean that you have to pick whoever has been in the best form over the last 6 months.

The sustained level of performances delivered by Danny Rose this season have led to many calls for the player's inclusion in to the England squad. That he has yet to be called up does nothing to appease questioning over the basis of England coach Roy Hodgson's player selection; does he really pick reputation over quality?

Danny Rose's improvement seems to be matched with growing maturity from the player. A player once guilty of dismissals, the consequence of rash and reckless decisions, to being one of the shining lights from a Tottenham side who are still in and amongst the battle for a top 4 place & the coveted reward of a Champions League place for next season.

Defensively, Rose has managed an average of 3 tackles & over 2 interceptions per match. (Figures taken from Whoscored.com). Whilst, his developing attacking play is reflected by his creation of 4 league goals this season & 2 goals, including one in the 5-3 New Year victory over London rivals Chelsea.

Surely with these figures, and his overall influence on the Tottenham side, it can only be a matter of time before Rose joins team mates Kane, Townsend and Walker in the full England squad.

I think it's comical that two players who are bro first choice for their clubs (shaw will be replaced by Blind till the end of the season imo and Monteal has been a first pick) and a players who side have had their worse defensive season in recent years gets in ahead of a player who has been consistently hitting 7-8/10 performances ina. Shocking defensive unit

He was blinding today

I guess that I need to update my article! :D

If they were fearful, they would have picked him in the first place imo.

Really is the most improved player (I guess barring Kane)

"Get fudging forward"

If Townsend and Lamela improved as much as Rose did this season, we'd be flying. Hats off to him for his determination and congrats for the call-up. Personally, I'd rather none of our players got picked for international duty. Less chance of injury, fatigue, etc. etc. But nice validation of their value and effort.

Another short clip of Rose from Saturday which also shows him preventing Nugent from having a free header on the far post, after Vertonghen gets caught under the flight of the ball.

I see that Rose was our top tackler for the 3rd game in a row, this time he put in as many tackles as Vertonghen + Dier + Walker put together.

Chadli once again putting in just the one solitary tackle, a defensive contribution which was just about forgiveable when he was scoring regularly but not when he's missing sitters.

Excellent defending from Rose, but why the comment about Vertonghen? Wasn't Nugent playing on the right for them? Is it the centre back's job to track the right sided midfielder in that situation?

Rose does very well. Nugent is quite a lot bigger than him, but Rose challenges for it rather brilliantly, puts his body in there to make sure Nugent doesn't get the easy header and even gets to the ball first. He does his job against his man.

Look at the clip again. Look at Dier being ahead of the central Leicester player, no control over him at all. Yet you want Vertonghen to leave that player and be 5-10 yards further back picking up their right sided midfielder?
