Hugo Lloris

Of the top of my head it's probably the amount of goals that he lets creep in that others wouldn't.. He reminds me of Robinson in that he was a solid all-round keeper that looks quality but he always conceeded a few low driven shots from outside the box squirm under him each year.. It used to do my head in.

i think there can be question marks about a few of the goals that Lloris lets in too. I dont think Hart is anywhere near as bad as Robinson for goals from outside the area. Hart had a spell where he was making mistakes but before then and since he has been very good imo

The way Hart bounced back after being dropped has been mightily impressive, and showed bottle/professionalism I wasn't sure he had.

That said, Hart's a good keeper, just not better than Hugo.

all those missed balls outside the penalty box and not properly stopping those zingers makes me think that he is is short of courage/bravery.

maybe a short course in boxing can cure him of it.

loris on the other hand puts everything into stopping the shot - his head, his face, everything.

Dear lord that's not nice to watch

neither is this  sh!t happens to all keepers.........also Lloris versus Downing at Liverpool last season???

Agreed indian, that kind of thing does happen to just about every keeper.

The Hart video was a bit painful to watch, but there weren't a ton of instances in there considering it's over a couple of seasons and during his worst period as a player.

Like chancer said, the way Hart has bounced back is very impressive. And although I rate Begovic for example very highly most of the players we could realistically sign including him would have the question about how they would deal with the higher pressure at a bigger club unanswered.

Hopefully this discussion will remain hypothetical and we can keep Hugo.

Lloris is a brave ****er.

I remember playing in goal in a 5 a side tournament and saving a pen. My mate couldn't believe how i threw myself at it asking "but what if the ball hits you in the face?". Hugo guards the net with no thought for getting whacked. I remember Rob Green used to save an aweful lot of shots with his face too

i don't care how fashionable the "sweeper keeper" is

THIS is why Goalkeepers should NOT BE ALLOWED OUT OF THE AREA

i don't have any facts and figures but i think you'll find that for the majority of the time keepers to clear the danger safely outside the area. on a one-on-one through ball situation keeper not coming out fast enough would result in a goal anyway.

i partly agree, but there are many times in that video that if the keeper had stayed a little deeper, he would have averted the danger rather than being beaten by the bounce or missing his kick.

but keepers are often coming out too far and making tits of themselves. (as we saw from the Schmiechel vid - its not a new thing entirely)

and it is partly down to playing a high line too.

If someone posted a video of 10 instances of goalkeeper clearing the danger outside the area would that show that goalkeepers should leave their area more often?

There are also many situations where if the goalkeeper had come out a little further he would have averted the danger instead of having to face a one on one.

Better decision making is needed, not categorical statements like "do not leave your area".

Another brilliant game from Hugo

Sure Ade/Paulinho got some abuse from him as well for the wall garbage

Still have no idea how people think replacing him with Foster or someone else will ever benefit us.
