*** The Official 26/27 Premier League Thread ***

Our tinfoil hat lot would do well to note that all teams get shafted by the incompetence of those officiating.

Absolutely! Is it completely ridiculous that we end a game with City unjustly having a player off, and United unjustly conceding a goal. These things are so easy to get right. The level of incompetence is incredible.

To people that watch a lot of football in other countries with VAR: is it like this there too?

It's a complete farse in Norway too. Germany seems get it somewhere near right.

Well, one way of looking at the table is that we're only 2 points off United. And most United fans said before the first game, that they had the easiest start ever, and should easily pick up 15 points from the first 5 games. Aged like milk that prediction!

Neville should just zip up his big, loud mouth! He didn't bitch an moan when this ridiculous goal was given!

It's bizarre they didn't think Fernandez at least fell foul of two of the four guidelines on the list.

When the rules talk about interfering with play stating:
"A player will be penalised if they are…Clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent"

It seems that Fernandez narrowly missing a diving header just outside the six yard box is a picture-perfect example of this.

I don’t get how that decision was even “subjective”. Maybe someone ought to have thought of the “subject” of the piece as the goalkeeper. What was he realistically expecting might happen at the moment Fernandez was mid-dive attempting to head the ball towards goal, from a position central to the goal? And would his expectation mean that Fernandez was interfering with play? Or ought he (the gk) have ignored Fernandez and concentrated on Haaland?
I mean it just seems so basic.

And now ‘Pro Ref’ have admitted the goal shouldn’t have been given. Shocking match all around for the officials. Why is this stuff so hard to get right?
I get the goal but why is no one talking about Bruno. Bruno should have been sent off as well or they both should have been cautioned. How Foden gets sent after getting booted twice and his foot grazes Bruno baffs me. 😂

That's true. One day we'll have an inexplicable decision against us and we won't be laughing then.
I can easily imagine that day being Saturday.
And I am unsure that there would be quite the high-level scrutiny if it does happen.
Just another Fool McNulty BBC op-ed about Tottenham being put in their place by natural justice or some such tosh

The furore around these decisions is masking some of the chat about how dire Utd were. Foden was sent off before half an hour was played, after that, Utd didn't have a shot on target until 70 minutes.
They were sorely lacking threat down the wings and were absolutely nullified by Maresca's deliberate retreat into and congestion of the centre.

Good to see that Rooney (like Keane) not allowing the fact that he’s a former ManU player cloud his judgement and calling this incident fairly; wish that Keown, Smith and the other gobby Goons who keep contaminating coverage would try to provide such balanced viewpoints.
