Sandro Tonali Official

i like that he is defence-first mentality, though his super power is quick passes forwards. sad to say that after peak eriksen, our midfield quality has never been the same until now.

Now most have seen him play, I wonder if people see now that he's not some Pirlo conductor regen type of player. He doesn't really play longer passes even when the options are on, he can drive, pass short to mid distance, tackle. All to a a very high level. People were expecting him to be the metronome but that's never been how he plays.

Him and Fernandez with Bergvall in front would be interesting up until reinforcements arrive.

Until reinforcements arrive? Which ones do you have in mind? Because for now - at least until Xavi and/or Deki is back - Tonali, Fernandes, Bergvall would be my preferred combination in midfield.

Get the ball, gives the ball, manages the tempo, I think a metronome would be a good comparison given his pre season TBH. Did anyone say he was like Pirlo?

Before he signed people were saying he was a player that would hit long diagonals and balls over the top. But that's never been his game.

Should’ve known he’d have a Sissoko after Bitter Jamie sang his praises before kick-off!

Obviously not writing him off. I liked what I saw of him in Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

But he was absolutely pants today

There'll be a lot more scrutiny over each missed pass given the price tag. Once we pair him and Fernandes together properly, you can't expect immediate results but you'd want to see improvement given it's 185m on one area of the pitch.

I always saw more from Guimuires (sp) and Joelinton, but as said in the Senesi thread, 10/15 games before we can really comment, especially as I haven't watched a huge amount of football outside of Spurs the last couple years...

Unrelated but it's a proper shocker to me that there was a gambling advert on the hoardings as well, it's like having adverts for heroin on the wall where an ex junkie works.

I was quite alarmed about how anonymous he was yesterday, given the complete opposite impression in pre season.

Game was passing him by.

I've said since we were linked with him. He's a player I've followed and when I say he's not a metronome this is the sort of thing I'm referring to.

He's not a midfielder that will slow it down, speed it up, analyse what the game needs management wise and then do it. It's simply not his game.

What he is a modern 6/8 hybrid midfielder. I said before that having Fernandes as the 6 and Tonali and Gallagher as 8's would suit them both better.

He's only going to be as good as the players you pair him with. Yesterday he had Bergvall who has tons of glaring holes in his game as a CM (the hype does no where near match his ability) and Gallagher whose best aspects are all when he's not touching the ball. It was a brick midfield with 0 balance, the result was to be expected.

Whack useless forwards in front of him to double down on the issues.

No movement in front of him, poor midfield partner = zero chance for Tonali
