Transfer thread

Surely the player's agent would just inform PL clubs at the point when a club from another country agrees a deal. A PL club can then just beat the overseas bid by a small amount and it's still a better deal for the selling club.

I think clubs definitely push their luck with the fees they request from English clubs and English clubs sometimes bite if they think they need to get in before another English club but if you're prepared to wait until later in the window then the fees will definitely come down as selling clubs are forced to get realistic for fees they can demand for unwanted players.
But then get slated for not paying whatever in order to get the deal done early?

Can someone remind me of the Burger King story again? Was it the Zokora pic or another Ben story?
If I remember correctly, Ben was up a tree, at the airport, looking at the Burger King.
He got hungry, so ordered an ITK Whopper deal.
Didier Zokora delivered the meal, but forgot to bring the drink.
Ben then saw Giuseppe Rossi order some chicken tenders, with yellow mustard. This left Ben feeling blue.

(I don't know. Who even knows if there is a burger king?!)

The actual problem I think we’re causing ourselves is that people will very quickly forget why the fees were potentially arranged in such a way - so if Savinho comes in and doesn’t hit the ground running he’s going to have all sorts of stories and views on him of “how much?!” The media and fans saying he isn’t worth the money for the output, and it’s going to heap a ton of pressure on him really early on. Despite the fact that I do think it eh fees will just be accounting admin more than anything
You can't continue to make allowances for people without a brain?

Ornstein is reporting that Palhinha is being sold to Benfica for 14m euros with 5m more add-ons. That's a big hit for Bayern, and also shows the Premier League Premium considering the amounts being mentioned when he was linked back with us as well as Villa or Saudi Sportswashing Machine.
Wow...thought he was a Sporting lad thru and thru?

I think a very interesting development with our summer window has been our apparent willingness to (essentially) unsettle our principal targets and leave them more unstable at their respective clubs. Others have done it forever, and we've had it done to us, however with Savinho and Marmoush, City are essentially left with two players who want to leave, and the same could be said of Gakpo, which leaves Liverpool with a big decision to make. Interesting stuff...

It is interesting, because I think City has actually had that reputation of you might not get game time, but you would get trophies and when you wanted out, you could leave, and they have changed.

We have let a number of players go, and at reasonable rates as well

What we have shown the players we want is, "you are who we want" and "we will pay over market rate" and we have a manager that has a plan for you, there is ambition here (you will be one of 6-8 incoming), and if your club doesn't sell, it's on them, not us.

It is, and if I was spending my money Savinho wouldn’t be even in the same post code as that fee. If I’m honest, I’d go for Gakpo over Savinho if it was a straight choice.

However, as ridiculous as the fee looks (and we haven’t seen the Marmoush one yet) I think it will turn out that any fee we pay for Savinho won’t actually be the fee we pay for Savinho, because part of Marmoush fee will be hidden within it so City can avoid paying Frankfurt more.

TBH I think Savinho is 40mill absolute tops given how the last few seasons have gone at City.

Tbh there is a very small sweet spot of return that would have been good enough at 50m and not good enough at 80m.

He will either be a hit or he won’t I’d say.

And besides, the club should be all over that message with him and would be surprised if players get wrapped up in that chat anyway.

Fwiw I agree with you. I like our ambition here but he’s not a player I would be looking at. I’d happily take Marmoush to leave us with him and Tel left.

I can only assume Savinho may also be filling the 2nd right side vacancy to compete with Kudus.

And of course Marmoush could play up top and the wingers rotate. I don’t have him playing there though.

To be fair, Arsenal of I think 22/23 played immense football. Was super attacking especially in the second half of the season and they were absolutely blowing teams away. After not win ing the league that year he has become more controlling, but he does have the ability to be attacking. He is just choosing the safety first route and really he got it right because he won at the end of the day.
yes that was very nice football but he areta broke because he couldn't win anything - then sold his soul to the devil and resorted to the dark arts to win.

With the two forwards in I think we can see Sarr and one of Bent or Berg to offset some of the outlay
Would be good to cash in on both as their values will only drop when they’re not playing…

Even selling them we’re still stacked in midfield with 6 potential starters for 3 positions.

I find it funny that gabby is still going on about this.

We are not a club that has money pushed into them by rich owners like Chelski and City. As a clube we generate the money we can spend out of our clubs profit. And we are under PSR. There is NOTHING stopping Villa or Saudi Sportswashing Machine doing that. So build a bigger stadium, put your ticket prices up ( ours are the highest in the league ) then generate money from shirt, stadium etc.

So get off your butt and work it for your own club. We all have to live with it. Man UTD and Liverpool generate so much money but we cant be jealous of that. That is built on their own well managed finances.

Villa finally won a trophy after 40 years and he thinks it makes all the difference. league position means nothing. Trophy wins only matters in terms of revenue earned.

We have 60k loyal fans who pay OTT in ticket prices. And Villa have got into the champions league in what? two seasons. Guy is living off one or two seasons and is suddently feeling entitled.

Villa fans in general are like this.
