I think thats also a very simplistic way of looking at it.

History in football is full of very good player and very talented young players who have played in poor sides. Some of the players our fan base covert played in the championship on poor sides when we wanted them. So its not as simple as saying "well they can;t be that good, their team finished 17th twice" thats the kind of arguments people were having at school.

One player makes a team not

Fair point. But I still stand by my view that there's a disconnect between how highly some people on this forum rate our players and how good they actually are. The reality is that if our players were even half as good as some people make them out to be, we'd be much higher up the league table. And the manager wouldn’t have come out and said that only 12 players were good enough if he was happy with the current state of the squad.

Not sure I agree, I think those that rate certain players are also very honest about the quality of other players, I just think you likely don't agree with the players they rate which is clouding your view or making it into generic statements

Pretty sure I saw posters claiming we would be challenging for the top 4/6 next season, even before the transfer window opened. Almost like the last two seasons never happened.

You not think that was likely optimism in the manager and the manager being allowed to have a good window rather than people thinking the team we have is actually top 4 quality? Come on now pal

Given the window so far I would say its anything but delusional TBH, not that anyone could have seen it coming, but they might get get proven right.

I’m talking about before the window opened, posters were still bullish. Now they’ve we’ve made some good signings I’m more optimistic. I would still however like to see some forwards. I’ve said many times I think our forwards are crap.

Point being is those people might actually be proven right on their optimism, which makes it alot less delusional than people like to make out

We will never know as at that point we hadn’t made any signings. It’s like people think the only reason we struggled was due to injuries and not the players being below the required standard. I’ve never seen a worse crop of wingers and forwards at Spurs than the ones we currently have.

Well I have to say as I can speak for myself, I had optimism on the next season based on the fact I was expecting to spend and I was expecting RDZ to get his claws in our recruitment. That faith as to a long extent been rewarded.

Regardless how people got to their own conclusions I suspect their faith has always gone a way to being rewarded. Time will of course tell.

I think the idea everyone overrates every player is abit of a lie though based on abit of optimism or someone liking a player others dont. I dont know anyone on here who collectively rates every player we have.

Nah I think people put plenty of blame on the horrific management of Frank that made everyone look 10 x worse. RDZ’s performance with a more depleted and psychologically destroyed squad tells you what might have been possible under capable management. It was easily a top half squad even with the injuries last season, RDZ proved that.

Now we’re flipping the players to better suit the managers style and being aggressive about it. We should be in a very good position come the start of the season.

I don't blame people for being optimistic, especially after the rubbish we've had to endure over the last two league campaigns. Last season was comfortably my least enjoyable since I started supporting the club.

That said, I don't think a healthy dose of realism would go amiss. As things stand, I think our ceiling is around mid-table as long as we have the current crop of forwards. We've also conceded around 60 league goals in each of the last three seasons, so it's not as though finishing 17th twice was just a freak occurrence.

I'm definitely more optimistic now than I was at the end of last season, but I can't simply erase the last two league campaigns from my memory. That's why I think talk of finishing in the top four or even the top six is premature. I'd love to be proved wrong though, and I'll happily eat my words if we exceed my expectations.

Frank lowered the bar for every player and didn’t seem to demand more
I don’t see RDZ accepting anything less than 100%
Frank was like a slow poison for football

I believe the situation is not as bad as some like to try and make out, neither is the optimism as high as others make out. But we are fans and i really believe that those who are always slagging our players off and those who get carried away with a couple of results are in the minority.

Work in progress and we have made some posistive moves to strengten our squad.

Work in progress with some young players

I agree. Hence why mid table seems like a sensible aim.
