Young English strikers are rare. I think if he was good enough in the view of the team we wouldn't be selling him is all.

I don’t think the club cares for or has a plan for young players
I don’t think there is an actual plan at the club tbh
I think the leadership in football terms are yes men and flip depending on the mood
 
Im a bit down that we seem to be just open to letting all our young players go.

First luskovic now Lankshear. he showed real promise towards the end of the championship season. Why would we not at least let him
have pre-season. I want to know why we are ok to let him go.

We also need some home grown players eventually.

I think it's just short termism. We've got a manager who doesn't stay anywhere longer than 15 months. So we're pawning our future for a present that might not even be that good (back to mid-table from 17th)

I think the reality is the squad, and that includes the academy side is too big. Obviously, a decision has been made to cut aggressively (and that includes some risk of mistakes)

Question is (and was for me at start of this), has our spending actually changed? we spent 150M net last summer, if we end up selling Vuskovic, Dragusin, Romero, Bergvall, maybe Spence & Richi plus a host of Academy players, are we really spending any more or just cashing in on assets in a one time way?
 
Not sure of the sauce regarding him expressing a desire to leave, but if true you have to wish him well

You are wrong.
He was at Sassuolo for around three years.
We are his 4th club since then and there are reasons for him leaving the other three - you will have your own opinion on the validity of those various reasons.
If we are backing this manager with funds, resources, personnel that he wants there's no actual evidence to back up a gut feeling that he'll leave.

And even if you were correct in your analysis of the situation, your final sentence can equally be written 'So we're pawning our future for a present that may be great (back to the top 4 from 17th). Simply perspective/vibes/gut.

Considering Boro made the playoffs last season, there's a fair chance of the likely promotion clause coming to fruition.

I wonder how a matching rights thing works; does it simply mean that they cannot reject an offer from us if we match a bid they've accepted from another club? If so, why would they reject it anyway?

Agree that this sort of sale is common in football, part of me is disappointed still. Is he the only player we have had who won that PL2 POTY award? Would have liked to see him do well at us but that’s true of all our players

The main function of a top club's academy is surely that it produces young players who can go on to have careers somewhere in the game and the club usually get recompense for that.
It's a pleasant but rare happenstance that it actually produces a first team player for the club.

I understand the disappointment i really do but its what all clubs do, as i say i hope Lankshear goes out and proves the club wrong.
