Djed Spence

He's a better defender than Porro, so it depends if you want your RB to be better in the offers I've side of the game or defensive side of things. I personally prefer a defensively sound RB who can attack.
They attack differently too. Porro is a brilliant deep crosser, but Spence is much more a driving runner and throughball player. I think Spence might suit our system better next year, particularly if we are going for Kroupi at CF

Can anyone explain to me why (a) is a penalty but ( b ) is not?

( a ) Mexican player succeeds in getting his leg across Harry Kane's in the box

( b ) Spence succeeds in getting his got leg across a Norwegian's
still comes down to human interpretation
putting ones body between the player and the ball to get the foul gets called plenty of times in midfield

the weakest part of the football system are still the refs - or the rules that can be interpreted in different ways. of course you got to start at the top and infantine is a huge part of the problem

I think it’s because Spence initiates contact by putting his leg across the defender and not making another move towards the ball before going to ground from contact.

I didn’t think a) was a penalty too.

Disagree (and we can do that), you are absolutely allowed to shield the ball, and the opponent cannot come through you from behind.

If you can give penalties for "follow through" after clearing a ball, I really don't see how you can say someone going through you isn't a penalty because you shielded the ball.

Yes we are absolutely allowed to disagree!

I agree with you that Spence was establishing his position between the ball and defender. If that had been outside the box it would probably have been given as a foul. I was just suggesting the reason why I thought it was overturned, and it appears FIFA is adjudicating these types of incidents differently than the PL which is what we are accustomed to.

What annoyed me about the penalty incident was how the TV experts/pundits quickly agreed it was not a penalty, when I use to listen to commentary and analysis they were always praising players for being clever, buying the penalty and shielding the ball. Be glad when WC is over and I can watch on mute and not have to argue with the rent-a-mouths.

I only get the Spanish-language feed here in the US and I’ve got to admit I enjoy not understanding what the commentators and pundits are saying.

Plus the goal celebrations are epic!
