Marcos Senesi

Our squad needs major change. We can't sign 5-6 really top players for top money.

If Romero out -> Senesi and Robertson in was our only business this summer, I'd be really unhappy. But it won't be. This lot have backed themselves into a corner, they know they have to do more.

You'd also hope that while this lad might not be as talented as Romero, he is more consistent and a better pro.

I'll hold judgement and criticism until the end of the window. I don't like this lot, I don't trust them but I'll give them the summer before coming to final judgement.

It will likely be too late. They need hounded out or their feet really holding to the fire right now. We won't circle the drain the third time, we'll be clear down.

Obviously the out of contract players who we had pre agreed deals with were going to be the first through the door. There will quite obviously be more to come, and those of genuine quality costing money are going to take longer to get through the door.

We didn't even know what division we was going to be in a few days ago, good players aren't going to hitch their skirt at a team not in Europe who just survived relegation just because we offer them a decent wage. It's going to take some time and work.

So if you want to be on the sceptical side of things regarding our potential signings that's fine, but at least wait until the end of the window to rant about it when you can see the full picture because the first few days of the window aren't going to be the best indicator of what we will be doing....

Trust the amateurs on the board and tweedle dum & tweedle dee. Just like January. Or last summer.

I am positive about this window because we have had assurances that things are going to change and we are breaking the "rigid" wage structure

I know you and others are sceptical about what they say, and that's fair - you can only really judge on past behaviour. But I don't think these people are stupid, and for them to consistently make so much noise about them spending I do believe they are looking to do so.

But whether you believe it or not, we should judge at the end of the window. Senesi is a good addition, if we build on that great. If it's just more potential/mediocre squad fillers that come over the summer then they deserve all the criticism they get. Just don't think signings we make less than a week after guaranteeing our survival is an indicator of who else will be coming in....

Depends though, like for me, if we have a great window or a bad window I don't rate Robertson, so will judge that on its own merit, and I like Senesi so will judge that on its own merit. Saying a signing is IYO good or bad is not a judgement on the whole window TBF

I see Konate is leaving liverpool on a free, leaves them a little short at the back. Wonder if they will renew their interest in VDV allowing Senesi to take his place for free.
GHod no, I can not deal with the scousers telling us how we are violating his human rights by not letting him join them for free

I'm not sure about this. Selling Argentina's 1st choice CB for a big fee and replacing him with Argentina's 6th choice (also older) CB on a free and lower wages.

On paper it seems like more squad downgrading/asset stripping by ENIC. Replacing Kane with Solanke etc.
If he's as reliable as Danso, it will be an upgrade.

Seems like really sensible planning to me. Sell a player who is around his peak but had a poor season clearly wants out and selling him while he still has significant transfer value.

But replacing him with a player who is also at his peak, who is proven in the PL, come of the back of a great season and who does want to be here. Also doing that while bringing in net transfer fees of £50m or so that can be used to strengthen other areas of the squad. Not only that but bringing him in right at the start of the window so that the

Maybe after all these years Spurs are now finally going to act in a professional way when it comes to squad planning?

We will see at the end of the window, the concern really is (I'm with @Gutter Boy on this one)

- Last summer, we spent 150M net, 220M total
- Since Levy left, the signings look like (making assumptions on widely reported), Johnson out, Gallagher in, Romero/Davies out, Robertson, Senesi, Savino in.
- That's is a zero net spend (probably), for "new" owners who keep telling everyone the last guy was the fault and they are going to invest, I'm not seeing the investment (happy to be wrong at end of window)

So much for that £90m loan from Macquarie Group leading to a spending spree eh.

Hopefully we won’t be subjected to another video after summer window closes of Lange informing us of that we didn’t need to improve the depth of our squad because long term injured are returning imminently…

£100m of our debts are imminently due to mature. The Printworks student flats that the club are building are also mid-construction at the moment (https://mcaleer-rushe.co.uk/db_projects/the-printworks-807/), the first of three big building programmes on High Street West. If we spend a single penny net, I'd be very surprised.

Is he a free replacement for Romero which would then allow us to spend whatever we get for Romero on a more key area of the squad? I'm thinking the attack specifically.

I don't get the 'if we must make free transfers' bit? Why on earth shouldn't clubs make free transfers? Does a player become better just because we spend big money on a transfer fee?
It's an ego thing. A lot of fans want to be Billy big gonads and make claims about a players quality and an easy but lazy way of doing that is to hark on about the size of the transfer fee.

fudge that, the aim is to buy right and improve. Sometimes thats a freebie, sometimes that a mid cost players and sometimes that might be a world record fee. Suitability is what actually matters not the cost.

I would like to believe that, but unfortunately, I'm with GB, looks like our owners are going for minimum net spend, Johnson money went to Gallagher, Romero money will probably go to Savino (so attack I guess, but not a CF), Robertson is a swap for Davies
