Kevin Danso

had a brain fart yesterday when chasing down an over the top ball.
but yeah i agree i feel safer with danso than romero
Herein lies the problem.... I don't even think Danso is world class. Yet he looks much safer than Romero who is apparently world class

Romero is a John Stones type of CB whose above average on the ball ability for a defender makes up for those lapses to an extent but Cuti would probably benefit from having a more senior colleague captaining him (like he has when playing for Argentine national team) then being burdened with the armband himself.

Danso seems to be the polar opposite in temperament and style, if only we could combine the 2 then that would be a truly world class CB… like Ledley.

Unfortunately, he has made two big errors late in games. Last weekend's was not punished. I am absolutely not blaming the player, as I think Super Kev is a top top man and plays with warrior spirit. But defenders will make mistakes. I keep on thinking about Rutter hitting that half-chance so sweetly after Danso's slip, and Havertz putting a free header from 6 yards out in front of goal over the bar in added time against City when both City defenders missed him/let him go. We just seem to be getting punished for every single tiny thing.

romero has an ego issue where if there are no better players around him he gets big headed and feels invincible

you need someone he respects behind and around him to put his head on right - then he can focus on positioning and defending.

danso does well because he just does the basics right (most of the time) and he is physically very capable

I've been trying to think of who Danso reminds me of - and I think I've finally got it.

He's the sporting reincarnation of Daws, from way back when.

You aren't getting anything fancy from him, ever. But he will get his head on the ball every single time, he will fight for every ball, he will bleed for the club with broken teeth and a smile.

As this season comes to a close, one thing is clear - in times of crisis, you really do find out who you can count on, and who you can't. And watching him blast headers right back at Everton, it hit me that an unheralded Austrian giant turned out to be more of a dependable man than the World-Cup winning center-back he replaced.

We needed a rock, and he delivered. He'll always have my fudging gratitude for it.

Good call, might be slightly more talented football wise than Daws, but the rest on point.

Eye was all swollen from arm in face today, and was still throwing his body in front of everything.

back to danso - he is getting better and better and i wouldn't be averse him replacing romero next season. he may lack the hard tackling and penetrative passes but makes up for it with his pace and better aerial ability. Overall danso is a much better calming influence too.
