*Official Match Thread* Tottenham Hotspur vs Norwich

He has been training these players since pre-season! The players we had available, who he has been working with, most people believed were good enough to at least perform well. They did not. Degree of post-hoc rationalisation for that is unbelievable.

I honestly believe that some of our fans aren't smart enough to realize what a simple game football is. What AVB is asking is incredibly straight forward. In my opinion utterly wrong, but not complicated. I respect his right to play as he see's fit and just because I don't agree with his approach, doesn't mean it's wrong. However, to suggest our players aren't smart enough is absurd. They are being asked to do very simple things. Personally I think a high line and pressing game is a very poor idea in our league and particularly doesn't suite the skill sets of our players. But lets' not make it out we are dealing with rocket science here. A team suited to playing wide, deep and open is being asked to high and tight. That's the problem, not the players intelligence.

This is my point, its simple. But some of them is not even close to doing it right, and it is not the new ones. So they have hade time to adept, so ar they smart enough to ever do it??

Aggressive ? you cant even spell the word you thick chav. Its far from "agressive", its just what should be the logical opinion at the moment. Read your only reply for aggressive.

It's "it's" actually. Twice. Mind your own spelling if you're going to cast stones.

You know when you look on other teams forums and take the tinkle out of them when there is argy bargy between members........

Wow. Now people are just coming up with with any theories to cope with this embarrassment.

Modric didnt play a game or train for the enitre summer, yet he was able to impress against the best team in the world. He had a greater impact in his first 10 minutes for Madrid than any of our new signings. Terrible, terrible performance.

This is a disgrace. AVB is a cancer to any club he joins. Should have stayed at Porto.

How's that a theory? Three players were signed this week and only one of them could play.

So those three players are that critical to us playing even remotely well? That was clueless, utilising players AVB has had sufficent time to evaluation and work with. Least when Harry's performances dropped off we still ended up 4th.

if AVB made a mess of the talent at Chelsea then he has a difficult job ahead with these players

When Kyle walker is taking free kicks into the box you know organisation is brick.

Defoe brick today
Livermore brick today
Bale brick today
Gallas brick today
Lennon brick today as fudging always sell the ****
Siggurdsson brick today
Sandro brick today
Adebayor brick today
Ekotto brick today
Walker brick today

Friedel was the only one who played well but again kicking atrocious.

Basically I could have summed it up by saying the following.

Spurs were brick today

Porto was in a very different league and seriously have a look at the front 4 he had.

Yet you feel the need to abuse and threaten online ?

Awww did I hurt your feelings with my honest and logical summary of what is happening ? Jeez... if you are happy with this start, regardless of who we have available next week, then... well I dont think you like Spurs or football.

Im sorry if you felt genuinely threatened. I dont really want to swing at you. Plus i live in Munich. So dont worry little Golfball. When mummy tucks you in tonight, you can rest assured that no nasty men will be after you.

When mean people say nasty things, its always best to run to an adult. Its good that your school teaches you that; either the teachers, or the mods - just make sure your safe and sound little sweet heart.

HE STARTS JAKE LIVERMORE AND JERMAIN DEFOE IN PLACE OF EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR AND MOUSA DEMBELE. Harry does something like that and he'd be crucified on here.

I love how Arry gets slated for 4-4-2 when things are not going well but the new tactical genius has done it 3 out of 3 games.

Emmanuel Adebayor has not played one minute of pre-fudging-season. A pre-season renowned for being physically intensive, at least on our part. How on earth do you expect him to start immediately?

Moussa Dembele has had precisely 15 pre-match minutes training with the first team. How on earth do you expect him to start immediately?

You know what, let's do an an analysis.

Last season, we drew 2-2 at Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

This season, we lost 2-1.

We've lost one point, goal difference -1.

Last season, we won v West Brom at home, 1-0.

This season, we've drawn 1-1.

We're down three points and a goal difference of -2.

Last season, we lost at home to Norwich, 2-1.

This season, we've drawn 1-1.

Our grand total of points lost during the transition from Harry's tenure to AVB's stands at 2 points, with a goal difference of -1.

A sackable offence indeed.

We are TOTTENHAM fans; the word transition is an entirely unwelcome motto for us, we should be used to it. Yet we apparently want to crucify our new boss based on two points lost and one less goal that last season, while he's struggling without the creative lynchpin from last season (Modric), and trying to bed in an entirely new system with players who have never (mark;NEVER) played that type of game before, with entirely new coaches and an entirely new training aproach.

I can't keep on repeating this, mate, so I'll stop. But allow me to say this one more time;

Judge AVB when he's been given time and support. Neither of these things have been in great supply for him so far.

At least one person has it right. I remember Kingdawson was of the opinion that Harry had to go (I think)... fair enough that debate is done...

But at least he can call it spot on with the new manager. Ive seen a lot of the people who wanted Harry to go haven't wanted to criticise AVB. But "did we get the right replacement" is a separate debate to should HR have gone.

So far it has been a really bad start from AVB with no many confusing things happen. I dont think anyone is saying this cant change as he wouldnt be the first manager to start poorly then get better, but it doesnt mean we have to lie about how bad the start has been.

How old are you ? 14 - 17 is my guess.

Now go away little girl, the adults are talking. And :ross: most people in this thread are slating AVB for worse than I am, why get upset at my post ?

All sorts of ways to discuss this. For me the nature of the performances is what is deeply worrying. Today was woeful, and reminded me of the soulless AVB chelsea which we all mocked. I do think we are going to have to get used to a completely different style of play (less entertaining for sure) and AVB persisting with certain formations and personnel.

It's not worth posting this as too many of ours fans are convinced that there are tactical genius's and that football isn't very straight forward and what you see is what's really happening, but here goes anyway.

Why would anyone, whether they've won the WC and CL as manager or never coached at the highest level, ask a team with Gareth Bale, Lennon and Adebayor to press high up the pitch thus making it smaller?

I'm sick of reading about how certain defenders aren't suited to a high line, but what about the fact we've got two of the fastest wide players in world? Waht about the fact Ade is brilliant at working the channels and holding the ball up, but fairly average at everything else? Why play in a way that doesn't make the most of these incredible attributes some of our players have? Why look to win the ball back to early, it's not like we have neat and tidy, tika-taka style players who are at their best playing intricate football in the opposition half? We can blow teams away on the break.

We are Spurs, we play open and wide, it's made us one of the most effective and certainly the most attractive team in the Prem over the last 3 years. I don't want Ade, Bale and Lennon to play neat one-two's etc. All we needed was a top class player with a bit more craft as an alternative to Lennon and Bale, a fitter CB than Leds and better striker than Defoe. We don't need big changes to our style.
