Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Who would have thought Farage wasn't racist enough. If any of them got any real power heaven help the UK.
On the plus side, there’s a history of these parties stamping their feet because the last bigot wasn’t quite racist enough, they run off set up their own version of bigotry… and then eventually that isn’t quite extreme enough either.
The hope would be it continues to be the case that none of these parties can ever quite gain power because they split voters between them dependent on what level of roundabout painting crayon user you are.

All extremists do it. It's what the Rule of Benedict (530 AD) is about - a reaction to the softness of the Augustinians. Then the Benedictines also got fat and grubby. Then came the Carmelites as even more extreme. Then they got fat and grubby too. Etc.

The plus is they have now fudged themselves, with this and all the rows at Council level it seems the empire is breaking up as quick as it grew

This shows the folly of Labour trying to court this vote by doing their own less racist but still GHod awful horrible policies. Labour will never be racist enough and their push right is killing their own vote.

It is an awful state of affairs when you have to look at how you can appeal to people like this just to achieve the amount of votes you need to get yourself over the line.

Wouldn’t it be lovely just for once, to have party who just wanted to govern well, put in policies that help everyday people and actually improve things. I’d love to have a really boring government who just do things sensibly and we don’t have to watch a new scandal unfold each and every day.

There's a part of me which sees this as a clever longer term strategy to allow Reform to fill the Tory space entirely and Restore to be seen as the racist party. And it will probably work. So May might not be the landslide we expected but the next GE really might be.

I have no idea what all that means.

Repair Shop is a terrible tv programme where people get their antiques repaired in a thatched barn. I just thought Restore Britain sounds like an alternative version of that.

Jay Blades was the presenter, but he's recently been disgraced for abuse type stuff and booted off

GBeebies is a portmanteau of GB News (a Far Right news channel) and CBeebies (a channel for toddlers). It used as a slur to mock the audience of the former.

Sorry, all niche British tv references.

FPTP is why you don't get this in the UK. You are usually voting for who you don;t want in rather than who you do.

When there are not two clear dominant parties but instead a bunch polling in and around the same, the outcome in FPTP is totally unpredictable. Anyway next GE is a way off, so lots of brick will happen between then and now.

ah...sort of get the references.

For anyone still looking at twitter/X, it’s worth a quick look at Rupert Lowe’s account (with the risk of what the algorithm then chucks into your timeline).
Totally bonkers. But dangerously so. Will never get to be government but just plain scary really. Oh - and someone needs to tell him that “from day 1 we will do such and such” doesn’t work. We have a process for changing laws.
Horrible man. Utter bigot.

Saw this on bluesky. Very good.

Oh, the grand old duke of york
He ██████████████████
He ██████████████████
And he ██████████████████

Andy got arrested … anyone else feel that this is just a spacegoat arrest to protect Jeff’s mates and take the heat off thousands of influential people around the world. Reminds me of that UBS scandal in terms of millions getting away with it and just getting one bloke done to take the heat off and conclude the matter
