ACLs aren't like that. They either go (6-9 months) or they don't (fine once the swelling goes down).

This is just a rumour though, so it's best wait and see what the proper diagnosis is. You often can't assess ACLs for a day or two because of the swelling, so he's probably not even had a test yet.

Don't forget that Maddison had knee ligament damage on 3rd May 2025 vs Bodo Glimt and was out for the rest of that season.
He didn't require surgery... but in his first game back, in the pre-season game vs Saudi Sportswashing Machine, he fully ruptured his ACL in the same knee.
So I am very wary of saying Odobert does or doesn't need surgery, we need to be sure.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison is a doubt for the start of pre-season with the serious knee injury he suffered against Bodo/Glimt last week.

BBC Sport revealed on Monday that Maddison was almost certain to miss the final weeks of this season - potentially including a Europa League final - as Tottenham determined the full extent of the injury.

Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou, speaking before the second leg of his side's Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, confirmed the playmaker "will miss the rest of this season".

He added: "[It's] disappointing for him because he has been a big part of this later part of the season, disappointing for him more than anything else. He was a big catalyst for us."

It is understood Maddison's recovery time is expected to take up to three months, leaving him at risk of missing some of Spurs' build-up to the 2025-26 campaign.

More positively, he does not require surgery to repair his injured knee, despite suffering suspected ligament damage.

If all goes according to plan with his rehabilitation, the 28-year-old will be fit for the start of next season.

That's the brick thing with a partial tear of an ACL.
This is what happened with Maddison initially (you can hear him talk about it with his consultant in his own YT videos), it puts you on thin ice.... especially when you are continuing on playing football at an elite level.
Fully snapping it and having it surgically repaired is the better option albeit a longer recovery, but a better outcome.

But @Gutter Boy says above that there is no such thing as a partial tear.
So somebody is talking out of their arse here.

How many ACL's have we had in recent years? getting abit ridiculous now, surely has to be down to the amount of games and the additional training needed for those additional games?
Five in three years. All other PL clubs have had a combined four ACL tears in the same period.

Edit: I think our women's team also had three ACL injuries last year.
