Brennan Johnson

and that is my concern.
Which is kind of funny, because if I’ve read your posts correctly, you don’t think Frank is the right man for the job and you’re happy enough with the idea of moving him on and bringing in someone you think is more suitable. Well, it’s the same concept with players — and even more so. If we already know it doesn’t work with a player, why keep him when that squad place could be utilised by someone better suited?

I’d rather we move on the players we know aren’t up to snuff and try a newer option. If that fails, you try again — rather than continuing to persist with an inadequate option you already know isn’t working.

Yep and we are kind of making the same point across two threads.

- I'd be happy to move Frank on (just not seeing the upside and the floor hasn't raised either), but not for a no name caretaker
- I'm ok with Johnson, Biss, Tel, Davies, Kota, Bentancur, Vic even one of Richi/Solanke at this stage, even Sarr, moving on if there is an obvious plan/replacement coming in, and coming in short order.
- I've seen this club with 14 injuries in the 25, a PL level player (argue good or not) is a better option than no player at all.

Everyone seems to have fallen for the "new ENIC" bs line, I need to see it, show me we have a player better than Johnson already lined up and signed before making the squad weaker. We will see when the window closes.

£35m seems cheap for a player who scored 11 PL goals last season., and a further 5 in Europe. Would have hoped to have got closer to 40m. And we paid 55 (without that scoring record behind him).

Thought there could be potential to try to turn the screw with Bournmouth and Semenyo. Essentially they get Johnson in return. But if the player isn't going along with it, then its unworkable I guess.

Levy wouldn't have accepted 35m. That it looks like we will now might be pragmatic. Because if we can turn it into a player we need - then it makes sense.

Squad evolution..........we make a small profit on the book value, we make space and we hopefully upgrade on the squad.

Happy as long as the next move is an improvement

How much in wages / lost fees did Levy's approach cost us over the years?

Take the money and move on.

Levy would have got £38m on 30 January, and we would then only have had time to loan in a Pienaar, Danjuma or Solomon as a replacement

For the last 25 years we've been told window after window that we had to sell or move players on before we could bring someone else in only for that to never happen. So yes on the balance of things i'd rather move the player on and worry about replacing him later. As it stands Johnson isn't going to offer much for Frank as he doesn't play the same way Ange did.

Do we actually want to sell the player or have him sit on our bench sucking up wages. The attitude you suggest is one we've followed way too many times in the past and to our long term detriment.

Johnson isn't worth 40m-45m to anyone who has actually watched him play over an extended period. Sometimes you need to sell a player for what you can actually get for them versus what you think you can get.
If nobody is willing to pay that plus match his wages?

Fair points - would suggest we overpaid initially but it's good we're looking to move on early and not just sitting on a player.

Because right now if Kudus plays brick or gets injured, who's out wide right? if we are trying to close out a game, are sitting deep and want to give the opposition a counter to think about, who has pace in behind and can finish?

From a pure team perspective, the squad is weaker without him (until we have a replacement)

It's funny, Spurs fans always argued against Levy as he ran it as a business, every argument about selling Johnson early and for profit seems way more business than football.

Odobert, muani, tel all can play there.

Keep seeing different figures quoted on Johnson's transfer fee paid by us , this is from the appeals board report re Forest's breach of PSR which should be the correct figure.

(iv) Player A was sold by the Club to Tottenham Hotspur on 1 September 2023 for £47.5m

Of course, its all with a view to lets see, always is and has to be.

I am keen to see what comes of this because ultimately, if we improve this team off the back of this and other sales and movements, I am all for it.

Yeah, I don't think Tottenham is the answer he's looking for....

Those claiming the fee mentioned represents a significant loss for us are wrong. He signed in 2023 for 45-50m on a 5 year contract. That means that his book value at the start of this season was 30-32m. Selling him for 35m will represent an accountable profit. Plus he scored the winning goal in a European final, with the added value of that. We certainly aren't in the red with him!
