Transfer thread

ACM/10 went from a priority to the absolutely biggest priority with the signings of Palhinha and the injury to Maddison anyway. So that's where we should be prioritising our money anyway.

Been some talk about Kolo Muani? Think that kind of versatile forward could make a lot of sense, but probably would depend on Richarlison leaving and not a ton of those versatile forwards around who can play wide and as a lone striker.

He would be my choice but I don't think we have any chance getting him.

I think I'd go for Muani and El Khannouss at this point in time. Both would be about the same as the MGW money too

Strange that the club wants a senior centre back, *unless* the plan is to shift to 3-at-the-back.

Otherwise, there are far too many already at the club - we have four senior ones plus Takai, and that's not counting the likes of Vuskovic, Dorrington and Phillips who are on the loan circuit.

But, if we're going 3 at the back with Porro and Udogie as the wing-backs, that makes marginally more sense. Though, in that case, the likes of Odobert and Johnson would be out of luck - no real place for wingers in a 3-at-the-back system.
Assuming Takai and Dragusin stay this season we have 6 centre backs including Davies. Should he enough to occasionally play a back 3 at times.

Depends on injuries of course. But if we're a bit lucky with injuries we'll end up with centre backs unhappy with game time this season. Unless Frank uses a back 3 at times.

Don't think we can/should add another CB unless the plan is to play a back three the majority of the time or someone is leaving. Or if that illusive CB/LB hybrid player can be found.

Think both Odobert and Johnson could do well wide in a Conte style 3-4-3?

Dragusin is a very good defender, obviously playing a high line is not going to suit him and it's easier for him to get exposed. He will look very good with Franks more conservative approach IMO...
I agree he is an excellent 'defender', but he might struggle if he has to play out from the back the way Frank likes to.

Whether we supporters rate the forwards or not is by the by - we've signed 5 attackers since 2023, 4 of which came within the last year - so LW (Tel + Odobert) CF (Solanke) & RW (Johnson + Kudus) are set for this coming season for better or worse - there is only really space to add a CF to compete with Solanke.

ACM is the only realistic position beyond that to improve things on paper that the club are probably looking at in an attacking sense.
Well that's why I didn't want to sign Tel (was happy enough for another loan). Johnson as you know I'd happily sell today. So sure we've signed players recently it doesn't mean we've signed good ones and good players is what we actually need.

You might not see room, I see space if you move certain players on. Primarily Richy obviously but I wouldn't be fussed if Johnson was made available or even Solanke if we were bringing in a couple of strikers.

We need a left winger and a number 10.

Solanke will be the striker with Tel as understudy aswell as playing on the left.

Odobert will be our main left sided player and he has lots of potential.

Kudus will be our first choice right sided player with Johnson rotating with him.

We need a number 10 with Madders and Kulu out injured.

Box to box we have Sarr and Bergval

Deep lying ball player we have Bentancur with Grey who can do that role

Holding midfielder we now have Palinha but Bents can fill in aswell as Grey.

Right back we obviously have Porro and Spence.

CB’s Romero, VDV, Danso, Dragusin and Davies can play there.

LB we have Udogie and Davies aswell as VDV who plays there for Holland and Spence aswell.

GK Vicario and Kinksy

So realistically the number 10 is the priority and a left forward if we get rid of Richie, if we don’t Richie and Solanke will be the strikers and Tel and Odobert will be rotating for the left side. That gives us enough cover in every position but the number 10 but if Madders and Kulu return early that is a more than enough players to cover all of these positions. They might not be the quality that we need but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Poch had to go a few transfer windows before getting rid of everyone he didn’t want.

Vicario, Kinksy, Austin
Porro, Spence
Romero, Dragusin
VDV, Danso
Udogie, Davies
Bentancur, Palinha
Bergval, Grey, Sarr
Kudus, Johnson
Tel, Odobert
Solanke, Richie

Maddison, Kulu

Thats 24 players without Bissouma and if Richie leaves thats 23, i can’t see us selling anyone else this window from that lot above so doesn’t leave much room.

Dragusin is perfectly fine playing out from the back when playing on his preferred right hand side. He’s looked clumsy as f**k when played on the left side which is where this idea he can’t play comes from.

But play VDV at RCB and I’m sure people would have the same reservations about him.

Yeah, I don't understand where that narrative has came from - He made that fudge up in the Europa League game when he got sent off, and he isn't as good on the ball as Romero but in general he is fine.

Like you say, there has just been a big social media release around him getting the number 3 shirt and not just that but talking about how his rehab is going. He is only 23, and much more to come from him IMO....
