Brennan Johnson

Thanks for letting me know you couldn’t be offside in your own half ! Lol

Pretty sure the free kick takes place where the offense took place, I’ll have to look it up now.
The offence is where the player who is offside is when the ball is passed to him
So it has if be in our half

“4. Offences and sanctions
If an offside offence occurs, the referee awards an indirect free kick where the offence occurred, including if it is in the player’s own half of the field of play.”

As I thought then

You can’t be offside in your own half
I mean that’s a HUGE change in the rules if so… which it isn’t
So the description you have quoted is wrong
The free kick is taken where the player who was offside … was offside
Not where the person kicking it to him was

Mate, ofcourse you can’t be offside in your own half! Come on man haha! The description I have quoted was a direct copy paste from the FA website, link attached as well.

He’s in an offside position in the opposing teams half when the ball is passed to him, but by the time he touches the ball he’s in his own half, so he’s offside and the free kick is taken from where he touches the ball “even if it’s in his own half”!

Right I get what your saying now

But that’s completely wrong by definition

The okayed isht offside when he receives the ball. It’s when the pass is made. The infringement has brining to do with receiving the ball. Just the pass to you and your intent to “receive it”
The fact you run into your own half to get it is neither here nor there. It’s where you was offside.

So IMO .. and the way it’s always been. It’s where you are when the pass is played, not where you are when you receive it

Obviously not according to the rules though.

Look I think it’s a nonsense and certainly wasn’t like that when I played 20 odd years ago, seems like complicating it for the sake of it, but that’s what they do isn’t it.

I think it’s a mistake by the referee who make this up
They have a rule which contradicts itself
Who would have thought it
Scariest thing is every rule is writes in the most convoluted language they can use to almost baffle the layman

Watching Johnson tonight was interesting, he forced a couple of decent saves from the keeper, one sumptuous finish that was just offside and realistically with a decent ref should have earned a couple of penalties. I was watching on S4C and while my Welsh isn't perfect I got the idea that they were tinkled with the decisions (or lack of) especially considering the soft pen given against our gentle Ben.

Brennan looked very happy as a lone striker with wide forwards either side of him, you're not expecting him to be battering CBs around and dominating them in the air but running the channels well. Once Son is away on international duty for the Asian cup I certainly expect it to be Johnson filling in for the most part fitness permitting, he's definitely an excellent replacement to emulate what Son brings in that position.

On a side note Rodon also looked solid and combative, would be surprised if he doesn't get a decent permanent move somewhere come next summer.

Have to agree with that
and Rodon was wasted here with the lack of opportunities. He may not have been good enough but wasn’t given a chance

He was pretty good, wish he’d been more alive to that chance Kulu and Son made for him, you can see him hesitate.

I thought he was really good for most of the game, was running on empty for the past 15 mins but still trying to get himself forward for our attacks.
Would have taken him off then
He had a very good game on the right
Moved son left and the Veliz cebtral
Keeping Johnson on didn’t help him
I actually though Destiny looked sluggish too

I like him but prefer him on the left. Allied him to cut in and shoot as opposed to always looking for the pass when he's on the left. I felt he looked more threatening on the left as well

They said Destiny got injured really early on but was able to continue. Maybe I missed something but yeah he isn't fully fit

He had a shot early on, which was the right choice and Son screamed at him for not passing, after that he looked to pass instead of shoot when he was in a couple more times.

He should have take the shot on, Son was hiding behind a defender making the pass impossible.
