** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Forest **

We are just relying on the ball not falling kindly for them or them not being able to finish. We are a bit of a mess.
If we are going to be outnumbered in central midfield then we MUST have top class wing backs. Royal just so poor on the ball.
Sanchez jeez , give it to Hugo. .

We are playing with fire. We need to hold the ball and get Forest running. The way we are playing reminds me of some horrible matches I have seen. Players in front lethargic. We are not in control here.

When we're outnumbered in CM, the two CMs have to hold their positions and therefore they look lethargic. We're accepting not being in control - I'm not saying that that is right, but based on the way we're set up , its all going to plan

The other sign that its all going to plan is that they haven't really created good chances despite all the possession

I think we need better CMs to play this way and be truly successful. I like Bentancur a lot and he might be the level required, I don't believe PEH is. The guys on the bench we haven't seen so I'm not sure, but we need a bit more quality in CM to play this way imo.

I think our biggest problem with this 11 playing this formation is RWB

In this formation, creativity needs to come from the WBs and front 3 given that the two midfielders are more disciplined and less creative.

Royal is a good RB, but doesnt create a threat down the right

That's because we flood the defence with players not really because of any real great defensive play. The sheer number of Tottenham players in the way makes it difficult to shoot on target.

I'm trying to pretend the match isn't on, busy gardening, whatever, very very glad Im not going to check in more than once every half an hour...till it gets to 80 minutes anyway

The most frustrating thing to me is the desperate lack of football intelligence we show at times. You look at things like where we direct headers to team-mates - look how often we put them into spaces where a Forest player picks it up. It isn't even not winning the 2nd ball (which we also don't do), but poor football intelligence to not anticipate where the ball is going. Likewise with the likes of Dier and Davies stepping up to try and press Johnson and Gibbs-White, who simply turned past them and left them dead on the half- way line like fools.

I've talked enough about being dominated in midfield, so I won' t repeat myself - the 3-4-3 is going to come back to bite us on the ass eventually, and maybe we need it to for Conte to change things.

But I alsp agree with him that at times it isn't a tactical issue - it's the team looking slow, arrogant, stupid, or all three. Think lads, think. Compete, win the 2nd balls, step up, but *think* - see where the ball is going to go, and be there. Basics that 10 year olds know.

Watching Arsenal against Fulham, there was a constant threat, energy, and intelligence to Arsenal's movements that we just lack.

Our CM is as always outnumbered and thus can't keep the ball. It does help create the quick breaks but we do like to play on the edge. Which just allowing them to have the ball will cause.

I agree but even in this system there are midfielders out there that can keep the ball better under pressure. In sure Kante could keep it better. Moussa ( the good one ).
From what I've seen Bissouma can.
Holberg seems to be the weakest link in midfield to me.

Players need to be in the right place positionally and tracking the players...think its a bit more than just bodies

Creativity sure, but we are lacking ball holding and possession ability. I don't think even adding Hakimi to the right side would completely transform this. We would still have large periods where we have no control. Yes along with periods of really good play from the width but Royal alone is not the player breaking the system.
