Steven Bergwijn

did you watch the game yesterday?

Bergwijn and Lucas (players people love to brick on, not good enough, etc.) tore City apart on the transition over and over and over (and Pep and a £900M squad couldn't adjust)

Would I play him every week? = not sure, but clearly he can justify his place if we are countering on transitions.

Moura yes, (I'm a fan, not a knocker) Bergwijn, not so much.

I'm glad we put in a great team performance yesterday, even if certain players made individual mistakes going forward, the whole team pressed/defended together to get the ball back. City did have a few quality chances and could have scored one or two. Overall though, I felt the team stifled City's attack and Bergwijn did well in that regard. I do feel Nuno has to play Lo Celso though, maybe instead of Dele, which might unlock more options from our attackers.

give me a player who is a genuine threat when he attacks but misses chances sometime over one who can’t run, doesn’t threaten and goes sideways

Bit of an odd statement

- Huge gap in his composure/finishing right now (but we have seen him score good goals previously)

You add finishing/goals to his game and he's an amazing player

He has pace, he takes on his man, good on the transition, work rate and application.

As I said to start, without the finishing part, it minimizes his effectiveness (see Traore for perfect example), but to say he has no standout qualities is a bit OTT

This.

Pace, tenacity, work rate, diligence in playing for the team, movement, ability to find space.

And this.

He really has the ability to be a top player, i still think he seems to lack confidence but if he can overcome that he is a match winner.

He's got to get that last pass/shot right

The guy on the other side tonight showed us the danger of zero end product.

The guy in the other side weirdly plenty would have here
We seem to like players with no end product
At least with Stevie you can see he is thinking a few steps ahead when he gets the ball

Thing is before us he did have end product. A very respectable goal retun. Hopefully he can get that back.

Yeah I said that in another thread
His goal return in Holland was very good
They replaced him with Noni Mauduke who were like with too and we know well here with him being an ex youth player

He's fast, he can beat a defender and has a cannon ball shot - if we can't make him an effective forward that will be our fault.

Thought he rightly stayed on when we started making subs. Of Moura, Son and him he was the better player on the day.

Good performance, thought he showed the good mix he has of athleticism, combination play and at least a real threat of end product even though he couldn't make it count.

Solid steps in the right direction for me.
