European Super League - Dead on arrival

From 2024/25 though.... Our coefficient points may well take a battering with (quite likely) no European football next season.
Think the clubs surrounding us will likely qualify automatically and we are quite a way clear of Leicester, but if we do miss out this year we’d need to be making Europa minimum to keep the advantage before it kicks in.

We only 'lose' 10 points though when the seasons move forward 1 year and the most historic year drops out. Its the following couple years which are more important. But as you suggest, we need to keep clocking up the points

The way the domestic cups have gone this year is helpful in that respect given that if we lose on Sunday, 7th in the league would make Europe, albeit the new Conference thing. But from a long-term perspective, I think we still want to be in that even if we field weakened teams

Unfortunately the 12 clubs resigned from the body that makes these rules. Expect changes....
That's interesting actually.... UEFA could now change the terms of the CL, the Euro Also Rans Bowl and the Euro Minnows Never Were's Shield competitions to ensure more equitable distribution of places and funds across Europe... They won't do this however as now they've seen it could happen they'll be even more scared of their golden goose being cooked.

There will be a lot of Spurs fan who will be comforted by that on their death beds.

"I never saw us win a significant trophy, but by GHod we were a big club." :D

I honestly would rather that than be a small club that picked one up due to the incompetence of others.

I need to feel like total domination is around the corner, I'm a long term glory hunter.

Exactly, it's that kind of levelling that has caused the SL creation anyway.

This has been happening in Spain on a smaller scale for a long time, Barca and Madrid (and more recently Atletico) feel they should get more of the broadcast rights money than the other teams.

In theory.... The biggest 4 in England (Man Utd, Liverpool, Emirates Marketing Project, Chelsea) leaves us and Arsenal outside. I think Arsenal have a higher coefficient than us? (and certainly will do by the end of this season with their better run in the Europa). That puts us at risk of a club from Italy or Spain not qualifying.... How does our coefficient compare with Seville or Roma for example?

Clubs did say no though - PSG, Dortmund, Bayern and Porto all declined.

Didn't know porto refused.
Also those three clubs are all but sure of CL every year.
PSG need no one's money. Probably also worried about fifa sanctions on the Qatar World Cup.
Bayern are in a closed league of two, in all but name. All promotion to the binders league means is a chance to earn money on Bayerns coat tail while they thump you. Would have been interesting to see what the clubs below bayern and psg in their leagues would have said if they had been offered the chance.

Thanks mate, I didn't realise it was as few as that..... At least we have a chance of finishing in 7th now with a new manager. I also wonder how coefficient points will work in the new minnows competition? I think CL and Europa games are considered equal for coefficient points, if that is also the case for the new competition then it could be a good way of racking up a good points total?

Bayern are in a closed league of one imo, they seem to sign Dortmund's best player every year.

knowing Uefa we'll lose two points for every game we play

They actually DID get FAR greater broadcast rights than the other teams for a good while. The clubs there could negotiate their own TV deals and this did cause huge disparity with the top 2 to Atletico and then Atletico to the rest. I think that was abolished recently with the other clubs using some sort of rule that they would disagree to be broadcast (i.e. so that the games of the top 3 against each other only could be shown). I think they ended up compromising on a deal that still sees the lions share go to the biggest clubs but not as skewed as it was previously.....

Although I could've dreamed all of this?
