I understand your reservations Nayim, personally I still think he would be worth a gamble IF available and gettable. Might even be available on loan this season which would suit?

Never had any fears for VDV.

Do have fears for Kaka. Once again, dont doubt his quality at all - but that doesnt mean it will translate to being a success in the Premiership.

That is not to say he isnt good enough, just that he isnt suited - horses for courses.

As Affy says the team would have to be built around him.

As well as that despite his ability I dont thin the physical nature of the league will get the best from him - or even see him stay fit through the season.

And lets be honest, can you honestly imagine him being sensational on a winter night at the Britannia stadium?!

Spain and Italy he is well adapted for, England? I dont think so.

I see you've resorted to the usual EPL cliches - I will address each one accordingly

- can you honestly imagine him being sensational on a winter night at the Britannia stadium?

Much to contrary belief - most parts of Italy experience harsh winter temperatures and severe weather. Kaka performed on a consistent level at AC Milan season after season, home and away, scoring 20+ from midfield, won everything a player could, etc. Quite frankly - the 'weather' claim is utter flimflam and can be applied to any foreign player who's come to the EPL and ripped it to shreds - pick your pick.

- That is not to say he isnt good enough, just that he isnt suited - horses for courses

I've always believed a player's true quality shows no-matter the context even in subtle ways - enough for people to notice and recognise true potential, unless of course the problem is partly psychological (Forlan perhaps?). Aguero was a prime example of some experts going off how he's too short, too soft, to young, blah, blah, blah for the EPL yet a good player always delivers in my opinion and so he did.

- As well as that despite his ability I dont thin the physical nature of the league will get the best from him

Another false myth, imv - Look at Silva, Modric, Fabregas, etc. - 'little' players whom the above cliche would have rendered 'incapable' of surviving this colloseum of a league the supremacist media paints - yet they are some of the most consistent performers week in week out, while tall cloggers and tough donkeys struggle. Kaka is neither short, nor weak btw so your 'physicallity' argument holds no water, imv

He is still very, very good player who's won everything in world football and was world class some years back - if you had no reservation about VdV than how can you doubt a player who's at least twice the player in terms of nearly everything?

Calling something a cliche doesnt devalue the point.

I pointed out the Britannia for a specific reason - not just the harsh winter, but harsh football to counter at the same time. A hard, physical team at a miserable ground.

Thats not for everyone. Kaka being perma crocked these days, used to a technical game rather than overly physical, wouldnt thrive IMHO.

This is not me saying i dont think he is a good player, just that this isnt an environment in which he will show his quality.

I dont care what he has won previously, its irrelevant - its about who/what he is now and how suited he is to the EPL - something he hasnt won either ;)

VDV had performed well in Germany, a league physically similar to the EPL - if he did it there he would be fine here

From the above I can only conlcude you haven't watched many Serie A home games of teams such as Cattania, Atalanta, Lecce, Palermo (rough brick) or even Torino. Because they play nothing like Barcelona or Arsenal do if you catch my drift

They are 'cliches' because time and time again they're proven wrong on every single level by countless quality foreign player who come over and take a big ol' mighty dump on all these preconceived ideas about the EPL and how only the very tough can make it - rubbish - quality is what it takes and that always stands above all else. Thank fudge the days of 'hoof and chase' or 'belt crosses into the box ad infinitum' are slowly dying thanks to these very players coming in.

And even so - would Kaka's worth come down to a single away game at Stoke? Even if we rest him - his output for the other 37 would offset any 'potential' shortcomings in what is nowadays more of a rugby game anyway.

According to you logic - VdV was also by and large a flop in Madrid (much more than Kaka in fact) and his time in Germany was in a team more or less on our level quality wise - yet Kaka was competing at the very top in Italy winning Champions League trophies, Scudetto, etc. by the bucket load. You already stated VdV's arrival held to reservation for you, yet Kaka - who is on average the better player in most aspects is somewhat a 'doubt'?

PREMIER League trio Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool are battling it out for Malaga ace Salomon Rondon, according to the player's agent.

The 22-year-old striker has attracted interest after his 11 goals helped fire his side to Champions League qualification last season.

And the Venezuela international's representative Pablo Martinez has confirmed a number of approaches from England for his client, reports Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.

But, with the former Las Palmas hit-man also being eyed by three unnamed German sides, he will not be bought on the cheap.

A fee of more than ?20million is reported to have been demanded by Malaga, who are looking to offload Rondon if they are able to bring in a big-name striker this summer.

The cash-rich club's Qatari owners are planning to make a statement of intent in the transfer window, as they look to compete with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Soooo, they want to offload a ?20 million striker to bring in a big name.

Former Word Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or winner not good enough for the mighty Spurs who currently boast the likes of Jermain Jenas and Jake Livermore in midfield? He has more technical ability in his left toe than Scotty boy in his entire DNA structure.

I wonder what Brazil, Real Madrid and AC Milan were thinking all these years

Sorry, but the above statement is way off the mark on many levels

You have a habit of seeing what you want to see and ignoring the actual post. Not once did i say (or imply) that he isn't good enough for us but somehow you've got it into your head that's what i'm saying.

So he is good but you wouldn't want him here?

I'd rather we didn't sign him tbh as he isn't the type of player we need nor does he play in the position we need.

Is he good? yes of course he's good but he's not as good as the hype suggests imo (even in his prime i felt this). Much like Gomez he's one of those players that are considered at the top top level but i don't get it (i get it a damn lot more than i do Gomez though that's for sure).

For those of you who like to moan about our striker(s):

JJetset:

I'm just sitting back waiting to hear what all the other ITK's come back with ;)

I reckon (know) there will be some other players (other than strikers) announced first but due to the fact that this is a public forum and i hate watching the Dail Fail regurgitate the ITK i will just sit back and watch for a while!!

so let me get this straight. The fact that an ITK, who is living off one piece of info he got right many moons ago, says that we are about to buy strikers, but he doesnt want to give names, is enough for us to sit back and bask in the satisfaction that our front line wont be weak for too much longer??? we shouldnt moan anymore???:D

seriously, there are no longer any secret transfers....anywhere. Most are quickly leaked to the press, via agents or the selling clubs, for their own individual interests of course, so to think that Levy and co and furrowing away behind the scenes in cloak and dagger operations trying to bring in players(strikers) and only JJetset knows about them is quite a fanciful idea imo

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought JJetset got things right both with Vertonghen and AVB when most ITK were saying stuff like "signing in the next couple of days" and he said it was still some way off.

He isn't saying that he's the only one that knows, just that it hasn't been mentioned by other ITKs or the media yet.

can i just say that i dont think kaka would 'fail' in the premiership

its nearly impossible for someone of his quality to fail in any league

just that he wouldnt dominate it like he used to.

if we had a chance to get him then quite frankly we should

just that getting him wouldnt really change our fortunes as much as people think. (actually scratch that, he does operate more in th final third than VDv, hmmmm...)

This is true in the sense that he would position himself in the final 3rd more than VDV (which is what you're saying I know) but VDV still is very productive in the final 3rd in terms of goals and assists etc. Would Kaka better this do you think?

According to a reading website he went came back from holiday in america met with Liverpool reading and then us yesterday and has flown back to Iceland to think it all over over the weekend

apparently he is a a massive Man Utd fan and would find it difficult to play for Liverpool
