I can see some sense in his approach - and I never thought I’d say that about Trump. At some point we are going to have to start living again - I think the latter stages of May/beginning of June might be a more realistic target though. What has happened in China/is happening in Italy suggests that sort of timescale.

I don't disagree about what is likely to happen. I just think that if any government were to tell the public the full extent of likely deaths and just how long we'll all be trapped indoors for, it wouldn't end well.

Trump's a lying prick, but I don't think lying in this case is wrong per se.
 
In respect of the social distancing and ridiculous pictures of crowded train, tube and buses, can't government tell train operators to run longer trains (they must have rolling stock not doing much)
Also I'm guessing the traffic in London is greatly reduced? Couldn't key workers be told (if they have a car) to drive in if possible with congestion charge waived and street parking/car park charging suspended, to lighten the numbers on public transport?
 
Jeremy Hunt was just on the BBC. I think (I'm only half-listening most of the time) I heard him say they're modelling 1000 cases per death.

That would imply an overall mortality rate of 0.1%.

Anyone heard anything similar, or can confirm what he said?

On the surface and without knowing the details, it does seem outrageous if this isn't being done. My local operator has cramming the maximum number of passengers into the minimum number of carriages down to a fine art, and it's highly annoying at the best of times. Surely such considerations should go into reverse in a situation like this?
 
They were saying last night they will request to go back to full service of trains to keep passengers spaced out a bit more. Not sure who thought it was a good idea to reduce the service in the first place, pretty obvious what would happen.

Yeah, I'm not particularly scared of getting it myself, although my lungs and respiratory system is kind of a "weak spot" for me. I've had bronchitis a countless number of times, and had pneumonia last summer. But I'm not sure my parents would cope well, even though they're only 70. It's getting scary. I also have a friend who had it, and he was very fit with no underlying conditions, and he got very very sick and was admitted in hospital.
 
Are they all still open though, and aren't we being encouraged not to go and pretend we know what a mechanic is talking about while he empties our bank accounts?
 
It will be interesting to see how this develops in Sweden, because they are basically doing fudge all at the moment. They're number of reported cases is low, but they don't test much, and deaths are much higher than in Norway, suggesting that the number of is much higher than what is reported.

There are many financial instruments that can be used to minimise the impact of businesses. Some will of course go out of business, but it's possible to make arrangements to prevent mass bankruptcy.
In addition, businesses will have to learn how to do business in an unconventional way. That's how businesses have evolved all the time. If you don't change and develop, you will be obsolete.
