Something seems unusual. It was weird that United thought he wasn't serious about joining (so why did he speak to them?) and then to still play in a friendly yesterday when apparently we had agreed fees.

Perhaps Juventus were desperate for cash but then selling other players made selling Dybala less important.

N’Dombele is an upgrade as he seems to be more mobile than Dembele who was perma crocked and unavailable most last season.
Sessegnon is a prospect and occupies a different part of the pitch than Tripps. I genuinely believe whosever plays right back is only good enough to be a backup if you compared them with first choices in the rest of the pitch.
Lo Celso I don’t know enough about but coming from a different league and his age means he would have to be going some to have an impact greater than Eriksen.

I was hoping we’d make a signing that might make the team and fans collectively feel like we are stepping it up. If the above goes through and Eriksen leaves for a similar fee to Lo Celso we will have spent around 30-40m which doesn’t feel like we’ve gone up a level transfer budget wise.

There are other external factors where we should be better than last season and the way things are going Lo Celso and Sessegnon could end up feeling like relief if they are announced at 4.59 when for me they are the minimum investment before adding another attacking option with a similar level of experience to Eriksen and a first choice RB.

Obviously I live in hope and will reassess at 5.01pm!

These things are always a mess which is why most deals get done on the last day

I agree with all of this, really. I would still say I'm happy with the window. Getting Ndombele in was our main priority, and we did. Sess and Lo Celso both exciting. It's a shame about eriksen, but what can you do. Likewise dybala, we obviously tried.

Nothing to bitch and moan about in my opinion. :)

I agree, add Dybala and this window is transformational and a real statement of intent. Even if we lose Eriksen.

Effectively replacing Dembele, Rose and Eriksen, allbeit with good players, and Foyth in for Trippier...doesn't feel transformational. We may improve, but enough to realistically go deep in all the competitions that we want to?

No blame on anyone as I think Levy has clearly kicked the club up a gear in the wages stakes as I thought he would with the new stadium, but Dybala really would have been the kind of signing that makes the club, and everyone on the outside, sit up and take notice.

This seems completely fudged up.

We've realistically had a very good window, but this has left me feeling like it's been awful.

Yes, this would have made it a brilliant window, particularly as I feel we're short of options at CF and have fewer comapred to last season
 
The one positive is that as an indicator of where we're at as a club, the fact that we were in this deal means that we will be in other deals like it in upcoming transfer windows. It suggests we are now firmly established at the top table. Before this summer, before the stability provided by our new stadium, we wouldn't have been close to being able to do this deal.

We'll be fine. Still crossing fingers that we resurrect it in the next hour but if not, we're here to stay.

I said as much a couple of weeks ago. Whether it happens or not, I really believe its possible, and so full credit to Poch and Levy on that one.

Pretty slim* but shouldn’t prevent this thread hitting 1000 pages by then!

*In my tiny brain I do not see why whatever dialogue can continue but then I also don’t understand why there aren’t lots of deals all announced on day one of the window based on out of window negotiations

dont forget. All the other leagues windows are open for a few weeks. He could end up going to another club now, in this window.

This forcing of the deadline to before the start of the season and it only involving incoming players has been an outright failure.

Agreed. This is a big step up from nearly signing Rivaldo
