OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs Internazionale

There was nothing wrong with the tactics against Pool - we got exposed simply because too many idiots fudged around and made catastrophic errors under little pressure, presenting the ball to their front three in advanced positions when we were on the front foot.

When the players were not committing the countless unforced catastrophic errors, we were dominating pool and they were creating nothing.

I'd suggest that the ludicrous tactics contributed to players committing errors. And I would hardly say we were 'dominating Liverpool'.

We had 11 shots, they had 17. We had 3 shots on target, they had 10. That is hardly indicative of a team dominating.

This maybe of interest

Inter Milan U19 v Tottenham Hotspur U19 - UEFA Youth League Group Stage - 13:00 - BT Sport 2

Goodbye, one and all.

Well, for this thread, anyway. Just found out that all CL matches are no longer shown on the Canadian sports channels that have been friends to football since the '90s.

For the next three seasons, it's being shown here on that upstart streaming service DAZN. Fcuk that action. No need for me to subscribe to watch the NFL games I'm interested in. It's all over domestic TV over here.

It's like a switch flipped in my head when I saw that I'd have to pay another $150 for the occasional privilege of watching Spurs play CL football and get raped now and then by atrocious reffing. I really don't give a fcuk about other games. So, until that changes, it's arrivederci tuttiquanti. I'll take up curling instead.

I wish us well and hope you all post profoundly and verbosely with lots of links to highlights.

I don't pay for BT Sport here in the UK. I think I might be perhaps able to watch it from another source however? :)

So we go with Jan and Sanch at the back. If one of them gets a knock / red card / we need to move to 3 at the back, then we're looking at Dier filling in presumably??

Still, Dier's in cracking form and it's not like he's looked out of soughts at CB in past CL games is it!!!???
Jeeeeesus. :(

Feels like we have an epidemic of "muddled thinking" at the mighty Spurs at this current time.

Or 'necessity is the mother of invention' due to a thin playing roster?

For all Eric's recent shortcomings one thing I don't think he is guilty of is a lack of commitment to the shirt.

There was no ludicrous tactics and I've already explained why it wasn't and I'm not going to repeat myself.

Also please do not reinvent what I said - I did not say that overall we dominated pool. I said we were dominating pool during the periods where the unforced catastrophic errors were happening less i.e. for around 30 mins of the first half and early in the second half.

Outside of these periods is where the vast majority of the unforced catastrophic errors took place.

It's not hard to understand really.

After losing 2 league matches in a row, we badly need to get back to winning ways. But it won't be easy as we don't have a good record and rarely win away in Europe. It is going to be tough against Inter Milan as we have lost 3-4 and 1-4 in our last 2 away matches there. We need to lift our game and put up a good performance if we want to get a good result in this match. We were brilliant in the CL last season, drawing with Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund away. We need to show a similiar fighting spirit in the CL this season, especially with us needing to play Barcelona later.

We need inspiration from our key players. Kane has been poor so far this season, despite scoring 2 goals. Wish Kane can get back his goal scoring boot in this match. Similiarly, Eriksen has not been at his best for us lately despite playing well for Denmark. Eriksen really needs to step up his game in this match. Moura has been one of our best players so far this season but he needs to be more consistent. Son will give us more options in attack but too bad Alli is out injured. Somehow, I think our key player will be Lamela who came on to score our only goal against Liverpool. Lamela has experience playing against Inter when he was with Roma. Lamela also scored a brilliant long range goal against Inter when we beat them 6-1 in the pre-season friendly in 2016. Let's hope Lamela will continue his goal scoring run against Inter in this match.

As always, we need to control the midfield to have any chance of getting a good result in this match. But our midfield have not been good this season, being affected by loss of form and injuries. Wish we can have fully fit Dembele and Wanyama starting in midfield. Don't think we should start Dier as he made too many mistakes against Liverpool. But if we do start Dier, hope he will have have a error-free match. Not fully convinced of Winks either as he has not played much since his injury problems.

Our defence have conceded 4 goals in our last 2 matches. We really need to improve our defending in this match. It is disappointing Alderweireld won't be playing against Inter as he is still our best defender. Not fully convinced of Sanchez as he makes to many mistakes. But if Sanchez does start with Vertonghen in defence, they need to be at their best to stop Inter. Worried about Vorm in goal as he seems to make a few mistakes in all the matches. Wish Vorm will have a error-free match for once !

We are under pressure to win after losing our last 2 matches. Inter will make it hard for us since we are playing away. It is going to be a tense match. we need to lift out game and put up a good performance to get at least a draw in this match. Let's hope we will get all the help we can get to get a positive result in this match.

Haha calm down fella. In my opinion our tactics were woeful.

Two at the back with wingbacks playing high. It's not rocket science to see that if we lost the ball in a position where Rose and Trippier are advanced we are immediately going to struggle with Mane, Firmino and Salah bearing down on Toby and Vert, which is what happened..

Mistakes happen from players when they are nervous of making that mistake.

Regarding your 'dominating' comment, I really dont see it. But hey, as I said it's an opinion.

Everybody dance now!

Wish we can have all our best players available against Inter especially Lloris in goal and Alderweireld in defence. It will be great if we can get a goal or two to overcome Inter. But since we are playing away, I think we need to concentrate more on defending to stop Inter. A win will be great but a draw will be a good result for us. Let's hope we will get at least a draw in this match.

Pamala is looking doubtful!:(

Interesting press conference. I think Poch clearly thinks some of the squad aren’t showing enough motivation and commitment. I fear that after 3 years of being pushed to the limit and still not being able to win silverware, and then making no new signings and having the new stadium delayed, the squad is feeling deflated - with some players maybe even wanting to move on (you’d think Rose and Alderweireld at least).

Let’s see if Poch can work his magic and get the squad firing on all cylinders again - his greatest challenge yet I’d say!

Also, I do find the insistence that no players are tired mysterious, especially Kane... but maybe it’s true, and it’s more a mental jadedness that’s the issue?

I don't disagree with you there mate, but i'm not sure his desire and commitment is making up adequately enough for his poor form, decision making and ability to pass the ball accurately right now.

First time he’s be under pressure.

Let’s see how he reacts.

Can we have the home and away teams in the correct order in the thread title please?

Too scared of the OMT Gods to not heed their word.

1. There shalt be only one Official Match Thread and it shalt have OMT in its title.

2. Thou shalt not take unto thee a graven image of thy own choice should Tottenham lose, thy avatar shalt be given thee by the OMT gods and shalt remain until such time as Tottenham win again.

3. Thou shalt not take the name of thy club in vain, the OMT title shalt always have the name of Tottenham Hotspur listed first of the two teams.

4. Remember to observe the sabbath between OMTs, thou shalt not start two consecutive OMTs.

5. Honour the OMT gods' official representatives the administrators, that your days may be long on this forum that be Glory-Glory.

6. The OMT's opening post shalt inform the members of Glory-Glory of all things important: Who are we playing? When is the match? Where does it take place?

7. The OMT's opening post shalt not be too short, nor too long, but simple, concise and glorious, to truly honour the OMT gods. A possible starting lineup and pictures of furry animals are not frowned upon.

8. The first OMT posted once the previous OMT has been unstickied shalt be the official one, though there is no glory in one not of the required quality.

9. Thou shalt not start an OMT be thou not a known member of this forum.

10. Thou shalt not start an OMT be thou not a fan of Tottenham Hotspur.

It's not true to say that we played a back two with wingbacks, as that is not what Poch did. He played a back four with attacking full backs. There is a big difference.

And a top team playing at home to pool can do that, but the unforced catastrophic errors undermined everything.

Maybe they were nervous I don't know, but I've been saying unforced errors because many of the massive mistakes were not done under some alien conditions of extreme pressure from pool - many many instances were fairly routine scenarios in the PL.

We did dominate in those periods I identified, its as black and white that we did as the overall game stats you provided earlier.
