Summer 2018 transfer thread

Every year about this time i see/hear the moaning minnies come out with the same old moans, Levy is leaving it late, he needs to get his finger out, penny pinching again, will not pay the money we need to spend, holding us back etc etc etc.

The truth is that over the last decade or so our club has progressed every year, that is in spite of Levy ( allegedlly) being tight, not buying the players we need ( more to the point the players some fans THINK we need). No matter who we sign, how much we spend we will always have these moaning minnies giving the same old moans about him.

Christ i wonder how many of those who love to moan about Levy being tight etc would have been here during the 90's.

The sooner the whole circus is over with, the better in my view, whether or not there are unintended consequences. I would abolish the January window as well.

If we didn’t have windows we’d have ‘Kane and Alli to leave’ stories every single day. I’m no fan of the current system (Id further shorten the windows) but it’s better than the alternative, which is constantly unsettled players.

This, i remember before the windows it was round the clock rubbish in the papers and flimflam from ITK"s about this player and that player. As you say the current system is not perfect but much better then the constant rubbish all year round.

Do you class the manager as a "moaning minnie" as he has ticked a few of these boxes?

Parklane1 is right - around this time every year we have a bunch on here moaning and hitting the panic button. Albeit inormally a bit later but being that it's a shorter window and there's been a WC I get why it's started now.

What makes me chuckle, though, is that it's the same old stuff regurgitated by people that have absolutely no idea what's going on behind closed doors. It's yet more examples of speaking with authority on a subject without being privy to any facts or true inside knowledge to back it up - just a load of supposition, blindly pulling figures out of the air and flapping like chickens because we haven't signed someone....anyone....!!!

We have a high level, greatly respected businessman with years of relevant experience at the helm and one of the world's most coveted and sought after managers working alongside him yet to me it seems some on here possibly think that they don't know what the fudge they are doing!?!?!!

Love it lol

Agree, i suppose its funny to see the hysteria from them. But it does make you wonder.

To be fair we've only been linked with about 30 players this summer (some I know of), I fully expect the frenzy to build as the clock runs down. When we do sign a player the usual over hyping of them will start until they fail to meet expectations when they will then be vilifiled. I know I'm destroying my season ticket if we don't sign Neymar, Mina and Pulisic as I'm fed up being let down by Levy.

Well for GHod's sake get googling and come on here spouting barely informed 'expert' views like the rest of us.

Is Danny Rose posting on here too then?

I saw we were linked to Andre Gomes. It’s not the first time that we’ve been linked, in fact the talk was that we were very close to signing him in January. I don’t understand why we want him. Firstly, he’s a Barcelona reject. Whilst this in itself doesn’t make him poor, as Van Der Vaart was a Real Madrid reject and he did very well for us. But, it also means that when I wonder if he will even get in to the team, given the players at our disposal already, that question gets louder. Why would we need him?

Right now, I think we will struggle to find a player that we can sign who can get in to our first team. Either we won’t pay the price, the wages, or they just aren’t available. Will have to be a special player. Maybe that’s why we haven’t signed anyone yet. Why just sign a ton of bit part players?

Couldn't agree more

I suspect (Hope? Guess?!) that we have identified 1-2 players that fit that bracket and are obtainable this window and are working hard behind the scenes to acquire them but I also think we will see another 2-3 like - but not necessarily - Grealish, promising younger players hungry to make a mark.

Fingers crossed and all that.

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard says "it might be time to discover something different" after six "wonderful years" at Stamford Bridge.

The 27-year-old, who scored as Belgium beat England 2-0 in Saturday's World Cup third-place play-off, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

"You know my preferred destination," Hazard told reporters on Saturday.

"I can decide if I want to stay or go but Chelsea will make the final decision - if they want to let me go."
Chelsea sacked manager Antonio Conte on Friday and replaced him with fellow Italian Maurizio Sarri, within 24 hours.

The Blues then announced the signing of Italy midfielder Jorginho from Napoli.

Hazard, who has scored three goals at the World Cup - including Belgium's second against England - has two years left on his contract at Chelsea.

Since joining them from French club Lille for a reported £32m in June 2012, he has helped Chelsea win two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.

In June 2017, Hazard said he would "listen" if Real Madrid offered him a deal, but added he could stay at Chelsea "for many years".

"We all have dreams. It could be Spain, it could be staying with Chelsea," he added.

In May, former Chelsea assistant boss Steve Clarke said the club may need to sell Hazard "to help fund other transfers".

lolololololololol

I can't stand this lot. Hopefully Abramovic will get bored and fudge off soon as well, demanding his money back as he goes.

Edit:

Just seen these two in the BBC gossip column as well:

Chelsea's Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, 26, is in advanced discussions with Real Madrid over a move to the Bernabeu.

Chelsea have offered Spain striker Alvaro Morata, 25, to Juventus as they try to sign their Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain, 30. The Blues are also willing to sell 31-year-old striker Olivier Giroud just six months after buying the Frenchman from Arsenal.

Morata(meh), Hazard and Courtois out with Higuain (another meh, imo) in would be fantastic.

Abramovic then rips up the plans for the new stadium and gets his 'personal aide' Big Vladimir the One Man Death Squad to shove the Hazard money in a black binliner and hand over Abramovic's repayment forms to the Financial Officer, who promptly bricks himself.

That'd be a good window. :)

Precisely.

I’ve said the same the last couple of windows. The pool of players that would improve us and meet all the criteria (fee, wages, availability, desire to come to us etc) appears to be very small.

Would be interesting to see who people think do meet this criteria.

Agree. Might be good for discussions sake that better could mean players who can help us get to 2nd/win the league, or advance to the semi finals of CL.

I dont think anyone says we need a tonne of players, but we do need a couple who are first team quality.

Dembele looks like he's leaving (although the post above calls that into question) - if he leaves then we definitely do need a first team quality player coming in given its such a vital position. Winks might get there (his Bernabeu performance was utterly superb) but one player in that position isn't enough and he's still young (as well as injured!). Obviously once you accept Dembele is leaving, then signing someone who can get into the first team is a lot easier

Alderweireld similarly - you could argue that Sanchez has stepped up and is now first choice alongside Vertonghen,...but replacing TA with a say Foyth-type player (in terms of level of development) would leave us very susceptible to injuries. At worst, I think we need someone at De Ligt's stage of development (young international, couple seasons of senior football)....kind of like another Sanchez. Whether you define that as someone 'who can get into our first team' or not, I dont know! His replacement definitely needs to be capable of starting say 20-40 big games per year

If Rose leaves you could get away with a more up-and-coming LB given we have Davies, or alternatively someone more first-team-ready like Tierney,...so you don't necessarily need player who could immediately command a first team place.

After those replacement-type signings, I agree that signing someone who can get into the team is tough. After the replacement-signings, 1 or 2 is the max number of first-team-SQUAD ready signings is as much as I think could be expected

I do think we should have a 352 formation this season given how effective Trippier is at right wing back. Plus Davies and Rose are both better as wingback. Therefore, a new centre back should be priority as it’s obvious that TA is leaving
