Who that we've sold in the past 5 years would improve us now?

another thread designed to make you smile from ear to ear.

oh go on then Siggy....mistake to sell him.

Defoe

i know he had/has his limitations, but he usually was a threat

oh, and he is a striker and we for some reason dont have many of those right now:confused:

Was about to say 'not this again', but the qualifier you stuck in there makes it a bit different. :p

Dempsey - never really got a chance here, but I think his strength, versatility, work-rate and Chadli-ish ability to be in the right place at the right time would have been useful for us in the situation we're in (needing a back-up for Kane).

Siggy - again, big, strong, good work-rate and a great touch to match. Would have done well in Eriksen's role.

Huddlestone - big, good passer from deep, would have shielded the defense fairly well (Although pressing would probably have been beyond him).

Sandro - because he'd be better than a CB at DM, definitely.

For me it'd be Sandro, Defoe, Dempsey

Sandro is fudged .. and Defoe is a shadow of the player he used to be .. Dempsey worth a shout.

Siggy no, because he requires pacey players around him, tended to slow the game down too much for us.

Modric and Bale. The core of our team. We're still affected by Bale's departure. 5 out of 7 big replaement signings have not worked out and we're a team who doesn't really have a core yet. Kane, Eriksen, Lloris are a spine of players that Poch can build the team around. But the rest of our player are all 'promising' or not performing.

Can Poch build a strong back line and midfield with these players?

I'd take Dempsey or Sigurdsson as both had a nack of scoring goals when we really needed them.

But the one player apart from Bale or Modric that I would really want in this team is VdV. He was just immense.

Iago Falque probably would'nt have done any worse than Lamela has up to this point.

In Pochetino's system probably only VDV or Siggy in the number 10 role.

That being said there are two players not yet sold who could improve us currently in Adebayor (allowing Kane to drop back to number 10) and (more so) Lennon, to actually give our attack some pace and width which would create more space for us centrally. In the first half we must've had about three quarters of the possession and yet I can't remember us fashioning a proper chance.

Teemu Tainio

EDIT - Whoops, I see you said last 5 years:oops:
I'd go for Siggy behind the front man, but ONLY if we had more pace in the side
