Summer Transfer Strategy

SUIYHA

Scott Parker
So then. Now it begins. Questions to be answered:

1. Which positions are top priority to strengthen and in what order?
2. Which players in particular would fit the mould of what you're looking for?
3. Who from the current squad needs to be actively flogged?
4. Are there any other players who you'd listen to offers for in order to finance more important signings - given that we're likely to still have a low net spend until we move into the new stadium despite additional Champions League and TV revenue?

1. CM, AM, ST in that order. They need to be quality players added to the current squad. Other additions/replacements can be in the potential bracket.

2. I have no idea, but for CM, someone in their mid to late 20s. We need to add more steel and experience. For the other two positions it can be younger players.

3. Fazio is the only one that will be actively flogged. Some will be available for the right offer, Chadli, Carroll, Yedlin, Vorm. edit: Forgot Bentaleb. We should entertain offers for Mason as well, but probably won't.

4. Vertonghen and Eriksen. In reality everyone has a price, even Kane (we're talking a world record fee though).

A natural leader, a winner, someone to take the armband from Lloris.

He doesn't need to take the armband, but we do need someone that has the authority to tell others to get their brick together when necessary.

A proper on the pitch leader, we have needed it for weeks now, its become more and more obvious, ideally someone who has seen it all before, whether that type of player would fit in the Poch mold is another question.

I think we need to improve our bench at least.... players that can come on and give us something different,at the minute we bring players on that are like for like....we are crying out for a quality center forward to help Kane out,a right/left siding winger or midfield player with pace someone who can turn defenders and actually can CROSS THE BALL and cause some issues. He has got an age cap on players he wants to sign but an experienced midfielder whose done and done it somewhere else could be a plus especially in the champs league, but they will come at a cost and with Levy tight fingers again we won't get this sort of player.

I think Poch might surprise us with his ruthlessness particularly after yesterday.

I'll pick up a couple of Saudi Sportswashing Machine players after yesterday, who knows they may have had a tip off that it was a trial for us.

Sissoko and Wijnaldum especially impressed by those two all season.

Not to get sidetracked, but I had hoped to see more urgency from Poch yesterday if no one on the pitch was serving that role.

Granted, I only saw what they showed on TV, but I saw too much of him in his seat with his head in his hands, when I wanted to see him on the touchline yelling and shouting and giving direction. Yesterday was the day to leave it all on the pitch.

1. CF

2. Kane-lite in style. Young with potential, but low profile (i.e. a Wimmer)

3. Fazio, Yedlin, Carroll + make a decision on the now overage Ball and Ward after pre-season

4. Possibly Chadli if Pritchard or Oduwa is ready. Eriksen if we can get an upgrade in his position

1. CF>DM>AM>CB
2. Batahuayi/Witsel/dunno/Lascalles
3. Fazio
4. Chadli/Mason/Bentaleb/Carroll/Yedlin

1. CF, DM, CB

2. CF - Quality player who can play up front on his own, as part of a duo with Kane or ahead of Kane, who drops back into the AM three. Also, has to be slightly faster than Harry at the very least (to give defences something to think about) and must be able to hold up the ball equally well.

DM - Ideally, someone who can cover for Dier *and* Dembele - he doesn't have to be a specialist at both jobs (i.e, water-carrier and box-to-box midfielder), but he needs to be able to do both roles adequately, while bringing his own unique skills to the mix.

CB - someone to fill that fourth CB slot, so we can finally rotate two pairings of CBs through the season. Strong, fast, preferably *really* vocal to keep Verts from dozing off and horrifically f*cking up if he's paired with him.

3.) Fazio, Yedlin, Chadli, Carroll (although he's leaving on a free transfer).

4.) Mason, Bentaleb, Walker, Vorm. Also, not strictly to *finance* new signings, but I'd try to find a loan club for Onomah, Winks and CCV, just go free up the squad space. I don't think we need to flog anyone else, although if Eriksen doesn't renew, we will end up having to sell him, and in that case I think we can make do with Pritchard and retaining one of Onomah and Winks, *provided* Pritchard really, really impressed in pre-season and we spend the money we earn on the aforementioned three necessary incomings.

We'll one thing that comes out of yesterday is that there probably won't be too many clubs sniffing around our players after that car crash end to our season.

Ditto Athletico Madrid's bag of bottlers too - throwing away the title to an already relgated side.

And no-one will touch Lacazette now after his performance in Lyon's 4-1 embarrassing by an already relegated side on the last day

Atletico have something more to play for, however. Can our players say the same? Was there anything more to play for than this?

And Lyon weren't playing to an *already* relegated side - you do our brickshow of a performance too much credit by comparing Saudi Sportswashing Machine to Stade de Reims, who were still fighting for survival on the last day and played accordingly.

9 of the 11 players on that pitch bottled it yesterday, horribly so. Mason most of all. This shouldn't be a debatable statement in any way whatsoever.

Oh, also, I want Eriksen to stay, as I said; but if he leaves due to him deciding not to renew his contract and Pritchard *doesn't* make the step up, I'd really like to see us try for Siggy again, with the assurance that he gets a first-team spot in the CAM position with Alli and Lamela flitting around him, as opposed to him being stationed out wide or something and having to drift in. He's starting to look ideal again in my eyes; strong, good in the tackle, hard-working, Premier League-proven, homegrown, familiar with the club, with the same technical skills as Eriksen (especially when it comes to shooting/finishing and set-pieces) and with his only drawback being his considerable slowness, which can be managed.

Do you mean the Lyon side who were already guaranteed second place having been 3 points and 22 goals ahead of Monaco in 3rd place and 5 points ahead of Nice on 4th? Or do you mean the Athletico Madrid side who are about to play a Champions League final?

I'm not sure I want Alli anywhere other than right in the centre of the park.... Whether that is in the number 10 role or dropped into Dembele's role. If Eriksen went (and I neither want or think he will) then I would want a left sided attacking midfielder to replace him.
