The first reports were that the policy would include everyone bar Ireland. Macron objected to this and apparently got some kind of exemption for the French. Sometime thereafter we reverted back to the original plan and France was again included.
The ‘eye test’ thing is already starting to tinkle me off. He didn’t say the purpose of that journey was to check his eyesight, he said it was to check how comfortable he felt driving when he was at the tail end of recovery from his symptoms, which had included vision issues - before attempting the 270 mile journey back to London.
I’m not necessarily saying I believe his story is true, or if it was that his behaviour was justified - I’m just saying that the media are using misleading headlines, and people are gleefully lapping it up.

I did think at the time why France is exempt but no other country.
Still it’s strange timing by the govt -don’t you think?
I can only think that’s it’s a way to boost our economy by getting us to stay and spend our money here.

He would not have it at the time and won't have it now.
I remember the time when the stories broke and if a CEO said they were moving due to Brexit all hell broke loose and if they said it was nothing to do with Brexit he would say they were trying not to burn their bridges with the British Government.
Never known anyone re-write everything so they don't have to admit they might have been wrong.

Some other UK Jap car factory closed already, Nissan won’t walk away from the hundreds of millions invested in the massive Sunderland plant when no one yet knows what Brexit will actually entail for sales into the eu. New EU-japan trade agreement means japan can ship cars from home now. Tariffs of 10% on cars and border checks with no deal hasn’t just vanished suddenly)

Guess we'll find out in the future. Hopefully I'm wrong. Hopefully we don't have to rely on hope to buy bread.
That's going to happen with or without a downturn. That's the whole point of Brexit.

At least someone knows what the point was. To be clear, the point of Brexit is to reduce "employee protections and rights"? Can't wait.
It's about competing with our nearest competition.
We should have the freedom to do that however we choose and not be constrained by protectionist rules.

We have free trade with the largest market in the world now - the EU.
Are you suggesting giving up that free trade, with increased EU-UK trade friction, will increase free trade, and reduce protectionism?
