Great post! Thanks for sharing. :) Funny how they all just walk off the pitch behind the goal. :p

I never knew Arnesen was in that Anderlecht lineup. What is he up to these days?

That Roberts goal is brilliant. A fantastic cross from Hazard, and the way he cushions it on his chest and takes his time to slot home. Especially after Ardiles had blasted against the bar.

Intriguing to see at 1.03 that one-handed catch from a cross by Pat Jennings. It was still very early in his long and distinguished career but the way he pulled it down first and then wrapped the same hand around it, he made it look so easy. Maybe the cross was not the fiercest but he made a habit of catching them single-handed over the years and some were much more difficult than that. The wondrous sight of him rising way above a sea of heads, his arm even higher as he plucked the ball out of the air is one indelibly imprinted on the memory.

It's a skill you rarely if ever get to witness nowadays, no doubt because of the changes in the way modern footballs are made. Leather and pigskin have long since been replaced by compounds of plastic and rubber that make them lighter and more swervy in flight and therefore presumably much more difficult to grasp. Even at times with both hands, going by the frequency the ball is punched or parried nowadays.

But even in his own day it was a rare sight among other keepers. Perhaps the memory is playing tricks but I'm struggling to recall any that had also mastered that magnificent skill. Certainly none that could perform it so routinely.

I have got a news photo ( some where in my collection) of Pat going to up to catch a corner with one hand, behind him is Mike England who was so sure that Pat was going to catch the ball he was already turning away and looking to move out of the box. It was taken by one of the photographers behind the goal and it really shows the confidence our players had in him.

Our best ever keeper by a mile.

.... 8 years ago we smashed Wigan 9-1. Can't believe it's that long ago. Was amazing being at The Lane and watch that. Incredible stuff! Did Bentley get that FK goal, or was it registered as an OG? Remember it was some debate about it.

Wish the current team can emulate or overtake the 9-1 win over Wigan in 2010. We came close last season when we beat Leicester 7-1 with Kane scoring 4 goals. Kane also should try to overtake Defoe who scored 5 goals in that 9-1 win. This current team is more than capable of scoring 9 or more goals in a match but they tend to get complacent after scoring 2 or 3 goals. They should be more hungry to score more goals in all the matches.
