also, a wider point, if a rebuild is ever needed it shows poor squad management, there should be constant evolution, there should always be a next man up ready to go

Hard to evolve a top tier team with no money to spend.

It's why the teams that stay at the top the longest spend money regularly.

The defensive part of our game is shambolic currently, no matter who he puts in they are shocking, its embarassing

Lo Celso, Winks, Moura, Stevie W were not too bad today

Dele can just fudge off, he missed a sitter which we luckily scored from and then misses the game winning header at 2-1

And the rubbish that we can’t buy a back up for Kane is rubbish. All teams with top strikers have SOMEONE as back up. The fact we didn’t buy a young promising forward three years ago to develop is outrageous.

I thought Dele was amongst our best 4 or 5 players today. It was the other 6 who were the problem.

the whole idea is that you identify players sooner so don’t have to pay the big fees, for example, if Ndombele was going to be the answer in 2020 we should have signed him for 10m in 2016 and saved 50m quid

our scouting dept have been pretty brick for a while too, it’s not all Poch’s fault

Good write up from Seb Stafford Bloor
https://www.football365.com/news/jose-mourinho-tottenham-2-wolves-3-broken-opinion

A couple of extracts :

While properly structured teams need to be broken down over time, Mourinho’s Spurs can concede from any situation at any moment. From attacking corners, from phases of possession deep in the opposition half; they’re never safe.

It doesn’t mean that they don’t play well in patches. Tottenham did here, probably offering more of a threat than at any other point during the last month. It just means that those moves don’t result in any sort of momentum. It doesn’t matter how many runs are made or shots are taken, because there’s no way of containing that pressure, storing it up, and then using it any productive way.

...the goals they conceded were descriptive, with each of them betraying a different type of incompetence. A missed clearance here, a missed tackle there. They were all well-taken and nicely constructed, but they faced so little resistance that that hardly seems the point. They weren’t scored against a team, rather a collection of players who only vaguely understand their roles and play as if they’re aware of their own glaring weaknesses.

I’d say that’s slightly different as we have a brilliant backup for Kane, who’d be first choice forward at most other PL clubs, unfortunately he is now injured too. Not having 3 deep in every position with our budget is kinda excusable imo.

I imagine they got scared off by what happened with Jansen but in fairness he's not the type to come in and look fresh after a bit of bench time. Again, another signing without thought. It has to be a seasoned performer (Llorente) or a youngster who is sharp and puts himself about (Calvert-Lewin).

What about knowing you are down to 1 forward (for the majority of the remainder of the season) at the start of a month long window and not taking action?

it’s a judgement call, who is available, at what cost, is it worth the risk, clearly at the time the numbers suggested it was, I trust Levy’s judgement, above all others

Son is not a CF For me .It is something that has bugged me for a while. “Kane’s out, we got Son it will be fine “. Yes he can do a job no doubt but he’s not a back up striker.
We don’t look as potent up top. Beauty of our side when we were good was Kane is such a threat it allows room for Son or Dele to play in spaces he creates by occupying the CBs

We did spend regularly until the last two windows. We brought in 27 players under Poch. Mostly disasters. He kept saying it wasn’t worth bringing in players if they didn’t improve the TEAM. He didn’t build an effective SQUAD. Played his favourites far too much and “broke” many of our key players - Dembele, Wanyama, Dier, Rose, Verts, Eriksen, Trippier, and Dele. Even Kane has fallen from his loftiest heights. His big money buys were not up to it - Sanchez, Sissoko, Lucas, Aurier, NDombele - with the jury out on GLC and Sess.

If true, and while it’s speculation Mou does have form for this, I hate it. Using such an alleged tactic at the expense of the supporters who pay their money is appalling and so Jose.

Not too dissimilar to what Pochettino did with likes of Kaboul, Adebayor, Lennon and Capoue before freezing them out for good.
