I haven't swerved anything. I think that Benny is an excellent full back and one of the most under rated players at the club. I think that Vertonhen provides useful cover whilst Benny is out but he is better at centre back.

Personally, I would have said he's one of the most over-rated along with Huddlestone

Yes underrated. He's a top quality full back, but we are constantly told by the media and experts that the likes of Baines is vastly superior. Of course it's just my view but I think it's ridiculous. Simply cannot wait to get him back

    Top quality? Nah.

He is decent. No more for me. I'd favour Baines all day long.

    Re: BAE

not sure how Baines would fair behind someone like Bale tbh - think there's a statistic floating around which says Baines is the most creative player in Europe at the moment (Key chance created or something) which suggests to me that possibly he is a little too attack minded for our team at the moment.

also gotta take in to account he is a massive mummies boy and wouldn't dream of moving to London

    Re: BAE

I think that a lot of fans of other clubs judge Benny on his form when he first joined us. I think that a lot of Spurs fans judge him on his one brain fart a game, which he is always going to have. I think that his good work far out weighs the bad.

I think that Baines would be massively over priced and I am not convinced that he would replicate his Everton form with us because he would be far more exposed.

    Re: BAE

We don't stand a chance with Baines unfortunately - if anything he'd complete the Utd rumours soon and take over Evra for a few years while Fabio is developing

Coentrao however might be in for a new challenge seeing that he hardly gets a game these days. Portuguese and all.. :-"

    Re: BAE

I think that we would really struggle to sign an improvement on Benny and any full back who was an improvement on him would cost a lot of money. I think that money could be better spent on improving a higher priority area of the squad such as central midfield and forwards.

    Re: BAE

You could have Baines if you have a Pienaar in front of you but you cant have Baines if you have Bale. The reason Baines is very good is because he can also attack but that will be nullified by Bale.

BAE ia superb because not only does:

    HE.

    ALLOW.

    BALE.

    TO.

    BE.

    AT.

    HIS.

    BEST.

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

But he also can defend and play some great balls.

    Re: BAE

Indeed. If we want to play with an attacking full back on the left we should play Bale there and have a left midfielder in front of him who can cover when he over laps.

    Re: BAE

Well exactly but the problem is - and this is what Neville alluded to - Bale doesnt actually like defending or rather he wants to attack. Its his game now - he is an attacker. Granted he can play at LB but Valencia has played at RB however he is still a winger. Bale is the same.

    Superb video

Benny does that week in, week out, when fit

Effortless. Totally dominates the left side and lets Bale run riot (and not have to defend)
